Your HTPC...

i really need to get my floppydtv working mediaportal seems to be shaping up nice havent used it in ages

A lot of specs in this thread have 4GB of memory, those that have 4GB do you find it to be a little overkill, and 2GB would have been fine? Trying to decide if I need 2 or 4GB for my own HTPC.

I just updated the innards of mine yesterday, went from;

AMD 3700+ with Zalman cu7000B on an Asus A8N-E, 7300GS and 1GB memory, to;

AMD 4850e with Scythe Shuriken on an Asus M3N78-PRO with 4GB memory, using the on-board video and sound connected via HDMI.

All inside a Zalman HD160, with Zalman ZM500-HP PSU, running Windows7 Media Centre. Just noticed it seems I have a penchant for certain brands. It is damn quiet though. :)

Nice case there matey. My spec is very similar to yours, with an E2200 and a Scythe mini-ninja. How have you found the temperatures? I've been too scared to try passive cooling and so still have a fan on the ninja.

yeah fine, i aquired some arctic silver thermal compound this week from my boss (hence the case open in the pic) just as an experiment.

on the stock thermal paste that came with the ninja i was seeing about 67c after a 2hr blu-ray. im yet to test with the arctic silver as its still at work following the install of W7 and it taking forever to copy back my media.. lol

plus one of the case fans blows pretty much straight across the cpu anyway (click the pic and it'll show you more).. not that they move that much air lol

Hey guys, in the StreamedMP skin for MediaPortal, how do I change the backgrounds to each menu page (like I see Family Guy on the op's post)?

Go into your Media Portal\skin\StreamedMP\media\animations folder. There you'll see folders for each of the categories on your basic home screen. Just add/delete image files into each to get the backgrounds you want.

On the original question:

Downstairs HTPC:
Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H
Athlon X2 7750+
2GB RAM
Antec NSK2400 case
Networked via Solwise 200Mbps homeplugs to main PC with 1.5TB media storage.

Hooked up to an LG 42PQ6000 plasma and a Denon PMA-255UK amp.

Mostly used for playing divx/xvid/mkv files of films and tv series, but also see a lot of use playing back home videos (my toddler loves watching himself on video), viewing photos and web browsing.

Upstairs:
Q6600 @ 3.2GHz
HD4870 1GB @ 805/955
SB Audigy 4
4GB RAM

Hooked up to my Hyundai W220D monitor and, through a stud wall, to our bedroom 32" LCD TV.

Mostly used for watching TV series and playing DVDs.

Both machines are running Media Portal with StreamedMP skin, moving pictures, my tv series and FirefoxIntegrator plugins, and both have MCE remotes.

I consider these set-ups to be some of the best investments I've made. They've really revolutionised our home entertainment. I only needed a few extension cables and an extra MCE remote for upstairs, too.

The only downside is, as Matt said, the music browsing isn't so hot in MP. Everything else works brilliantly. I've had one crash on the downstairs PC in three months or so - and that was because of conflicting autoplay instructions on inserting a DVD. Upstairs one craps out a bit more, but that's because it's my main PC, which does 101 other things over the course of the day.

If music browsing could be improved and somehow the TunerFreeMCE plugin could be ported to MP I'd be an extremely happy bunny.

Just knocked one up myself:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4
E6300 @ 3ghz
4gb Geil RAM
Radeon HD 3450
WD Green 1tb HDD
Vista media centre

In this case (A+ CS-GL-3):

Mine is:

Abit IP35
Intel Core2Quad Q6600
OcUK-branded GeForce 8800GT 512mb
500gb Samsung Spinpoint F1
Silverstone LC03-VFD

I've recently installed water cooling to it, which has helped with the sound levels immensely! :)
