Hi to all,

I am looking to upgrade for crimbo and I like the look of the Asrock Z68 Xtream4 Gen3 with the Intel 2500k but what memory would I need ?

I will be overclocking hopefully to 4.6Ghz which seems to be the norm please could you advice on the right memory to buy, I have in my basket the------

Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLE2CP4G3D2001CE1TX0CEU) [BLE2CP4G3D2001CE1TX0CEU]

Is this ok ? For me it's a good price ;)

Thanks for any help.

Nothing wrong with the Crucial Ballistix set.

You may want to also consider the Kignston Hyper X on special at £34 - link

It has a proven track record of running sub 1.58V - usually 1.5V - and has slightly tighter timings (not a biggie) - but it is exceptional value at the mo.

I'd just buy 1600MHz stuff myself as it's cheaper and you're not going to notice any difference in terms of performance. There's an 8GB Corsair kit on sale for £42 (this week only) which you can't go wrong with.

Edit... and what Plec said :). Also some G.Skill stuff for just over 38 quid. Choices galore!

Hi Plec,
Thank's for your advice, Are you saying the Crucial Ballistix has a proven record ?

I meant that the Kingston has a proven track record with SB setups - but that doesn't mean the Crucial set are bad.

It's just the Kingston has a lot more history on these froums running in lots of different setups at sub 1.58V - hence track record. Also OcUK have used it in countless SB builds - which proves how slutty and accomodating it is.

I mentioned the Kingstons as they are extremly good value at the moment plus they're low profile which is always a plus.

However, you may like the look of the large heatspreaders and if you do make sure that your heatsink can accomodate high profile.

Thank you Plec and I will take heed :)

You mean the Corsair ones ;)

I have the same M/B and CPU as the OP and got the Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit when they first came out on pre order, they were only about £33 then.
Load the XMP sets them to the correct timmings and 1.5v. No trouble with them at all and they perform just as well as any other kits.
