I suspect it won't actually be 'cost price'. I'd imagine that they'd be selling cars for ridiculously cheap amounts.

Had similar from my local mazda recently..

Pay what we pay.. Cost price

Unfortunatley I was on holiday so couldn't got but would've been Interwsting to see what they claim is "cost" as after using carwow a few times to keep check of prices it seems a few select dealers give almost 20% off list just for the request coming thru carwow. That's even with added extras so it's not as if they're just clearing the forecourt for facelifts or owt

BMW Dealers lose money on lots of the cars they sell normally so I wouldn't imagine this will be a great deal.

It might make sense if you can get something really in demand that they don't normally discount or something but I don't even know if there is a model like this now.

It's pretty grim when dealers are having to resort to this type of thing.

It's obviously not helping me when I'm trying to sell my 9 month old X6

I doubt a BMW dealer will be losing money on many cars they sell.

Work colleague had his year old 5 series crashed badly when in for checking a noise, he knew it would driven and took it fairly well as it wasn't the drivers fault as it got rear ended by a lorry. It was repairable but he didn't want it back they offered him a "at cost" new car with 40% off with a well above book trade in and I bet they were still making money on that sale. You could get 20-25% discounts at the time so it does show the kind of margins dealers work with.

Cost price is usually the book price the dealer would have to buy the car in for without any volume discounts, manufacturer incentives or target commissions, then on top of that they can upsell service plans, additional insurances and financial packages also with incentives to the dealer. Get emails from dealers all the time with these "exclusive" events and manager's special price lists. Carwow still offers better pricing than these events.

I was at an “event” at a Mercedes dealer last weekend where I found this slightly discounted SL AMG, couldn’t help wondering how annoying that would be for someone like you selling a fairly new one.

I Wonder what the “cost” of that SL actually is?

I was just going to ask that as i saw you first picture, i'd assume theres a much larger mark up on the top end models, partially due to less being sold and partial just because they can.

BMW seem to have a large markup on their cars and some dealers are happy to reduce it to get sales through the door - so it seems crazy if anyone paid near the sticker price. When I was looking for my M135i ~4 years ago I had CarWow (plus Coast2Coast & TRL from babybmw) offers for a new cars to my spec which was less than the approved used price of a 12 month old M135i (with less spec) at my local dealer (which sold within a week). This enabled my man-maths to justify a new car, if I could tell myself that the discount could be argued to be equivalent to the 1st year's depreciation

(but, yes, I can understand a larger markup, and thus more discount options, for a rarer "enthusiast's" M135i compared with a more common model)

People actually fall for this dealer BS?

Tbh this is always going to be very tough, it's the worst year of depreciation and it's an old model now :/

Dealers lose loads on individual models. BMW dealers are propped up by the backend volume bonus I know a fair bit about this having spent 4 years with BMW and having friends who own and run BMW dealerships.

This cost price plus £1 will obviously not take into account the backend bonus so its a bit of a swizz.

I knew I would lose money on my X6 when I bought it. I got a crazy deal at the time on it (£17k discount and 0% finance) I didn't intend to sell it after 9 months so I thought it wouldn't be so bad. My desire to have a 911 and the way the market as a whole has flopped has just made it more painful than I thought!

I doubt many cars are bought with cash.

Let's say they sell a 10k car at cost price and talk you into a finance package with £2k interest on the finance

Theybe made their money that way.

This will just be because of the finance contribution directly from BMW.

So car costs £20k to dealer.

They sell for £23k minus £3k BMW contribution.

They make £3k and you have supposedly paid cost price.

That's my guess. In which case this is probably already happening for good deals.
