Hi,

I've currently got a Leadtek 8800GT 512MB and with the drop in value of this card I was considering selling and upgrading to something within the £170-200 mark as a nice transition.

1. Is this a wise move, would I see much of a performance increase?
2. What card would you go for in the price bracket above (£170-200)?

Thanks!

Depends on what resolution you like to play. The 8800gt is still a cracking card for below 1680x1050. If you do upgrade i would go for a 4870, u would see a nice jump in fps but bare in mind its dual slot

what he said.

I guess your resolution and processor speed should influence ** choice to upgrade or not tho.

I don't suffer any FPS loss at the moment, and the 8800GT is no problem at all. I just want to get something for it whilst its worth something and then I can move to something more powerful for a little bit more money and it won't cost me a big wod of cash.

I have a E6600 @ 3.5GHz and 2GB DDR2, gaming at 1680!

Went from a GT to a 4870 at 1680x1050, great performance increase especially if you like high FPS with AA and the IQ is superb as is the Vista drivers.

Yeah i suppose it as good a time as any to upgrade, especially how fast the prices are dropping for older cards. The 4870 **** last you a while at that res as long as new games don't try to copy crysis!

Great stuff, thanks for the advice.

With the GTX 260 having much more RAM on it than the 4870, isn't this a better option just an extra £20?

Ignore that last post, just read an interesting article over @ Tom's Hardware.

Anyone know if I'll be ok running this card with 550W PSU? I've seen the power consumption stats and they are quite a lot more than the 8800GT.

Yeah as above, go with the 4870, I came from an 8800GT and I'm happy with the 4870, once you get it, read about adjusting the fan too.

sorry to hi jack the post but have a asus p5wdh deluxe e6300 @ 2.8 4gig of ddr2 800mhz akasa 650off and 24 inch screen which better option to buy 2x 4850 or 1 X 4870 or just wait for 4870x2 cause would like to order now not been on pc for months :)

Well the 4870x2 is obviously the best card and will no doubts be a great buy but i would go for the 4870. Benchmarks looks good even at v.high resolutions and relatively cheap too
