Hey guys

i just wondered your thoughts on whether i would benifit from more ram on my system.

I have the following:
intel e8200 quad core overclocked to 2.5ghz (2.3 stock)
asus pq5 pro board
2 gigs Geil black draggon 1066mgz ram
win 7
radeon ati 5850

on the heaven test im getting about 20fps at high res no aliesing and dx11

what difference would 4 gigs ram make? Personaly i dont think it will make any difference. Maybe just make things load up smoother...

What ya think?
Ta!

If you've got a bit more cash to spend I'd suggest overclocking that cpu a bit more to really get the most out of your 5850. What cooler are you using currently?

Yea thats a plan.
Im using the stock cooler at present and managed to change the fsb from 330 to 360 but after that it didnt want to boot up. Which is odd because the temp wasnt getting too hot.
I have my eyes on the artic freezer 7 version 2. Good choice???

I'm with Redmint.
Although 4 gig will help, you really need an aftermarket cooler & to clock your CPU over 3Ghz.

You think i can overclock to 3ghz????? Its only a poor little 2.33ghz stock haha! Mind u i got it to 2.6 before it stopped booting.

You can pick up an E6600 that will do 3.2Ghz on air for less than fifty quid these days or if you have a hundred quid then a Q6600 Go.
I'd try your current CPU first though & see if I could get it to 3.0Ghz.

so your telling him to pull out his quad core, and replace it with a e6600? weird

Yea ok ill get the cooler. And maybe the ram too. Monies a bit tight after the 5850 lol
ill let you know how i get on in a week or so!

I pulled my Xeon quad for the E6600 because it clocks better, There are more ways than one of skinning a cat. ;)
But did you deliberately miss the Q6600 bit to make your point ?

Well if he can clock his current CPU to 3.0ghz I agree but if he can't the E6600 is a Brilliant cheap option to get him over 3Ghz. Not everybody has a hundred quid laying around.
It is the last of my options though but I can see you want to prove your point.

Well i cant realy get involved buying new cpus because its a machine i use for music creation too. Id just like to get the most i can out of it.
So. New cooler. Overclock as much as poss. And ram i think.

I cant find any of the same ram anywere so it looks like i have to buy 4 gigs in two sticks.

Im quite excited. Got a lan party this summer, with bbq and beers too! What more can u want!
