No - not another spec me a car thread, more of a whats your opinion.

Am considering purchasing something such as this:-

untitled-1.jpg

We're really looking for something a bit newer which will give us reliability and return good fuel economy. It's mainly going to be the wife thats driving it to and from Uni every day (60 miles a day approx). There's only the two of us but she'll be giving lifts to 4/5 of her friends as they car share. Here's the details on the vehicle:-

Model: CITROEN PICASSO 1.6 DESIRE 2 *ONLY 22,000 MILES*

Registration: 04 2004

Details:
in arctic silver metallic fitted with power steering air conditioning cd player remote central locking electric windows twin airbags side airbags adjustable drivers seat heat reflective glass ABS which has only covered 22,000 miles from new in the hands of 1 owner and comes with service history

Price: £ 5975

What you all think?

I think its the worst car I've ever driven, and that is being nice about it.

Its got all the downsides of a people carrier, but none of the up-sides. Just get a normal car.

It's a stupid car for people with kids.

Why do you need one? You don't have kids. Your wife isn't a minicab driver. They don't actually seat any more people than a regular saloon car.

I have drive the diesel and can only re-iterate that previous comments - terrible car, feels like it's made of wafer thin tin, rubbish interior, poor spec in general, looks poor and in general, an awful awful car - £6k - you'd be better with a focus. PLenty of room even for 5 adults.

Four replies and its not looking good so far - have to admit i've never actually driven one.

Am only toying with the idea of purchase atm

Just LOOK at it.

Do you really yearn to own one of those? Would it sitting on your driveway fill you with pride?

What does it do that a Golf or a Focus won't do better?

An ageing design in the least desirable poverty specification.

Outclassed by virtually all it's rivals with a diabolical reliability in many cases.

If you want a 5 seat people carrier then the Nissan Almera Tino is the one to go for. Often cheaper than these buckets as well.

Why do people buy these type of MPVs, they dont offer any space advantage apart from headroom, and they only seat 5 and offer a crappy boot. But there are thousands of them on our streets.

People must lose braincells once they have kids :p

One of the worst cars I have ever driven. I think if I were you I would be looking at a roomy saloon instead.

As for why people drive these types of cars: It doesn't apply to all obviously but my Dad has one, normal saloon cars are too low for my Grandma to get in and out of. So for him this sort of car (Scenic) is ideal, small enough to fit in his garage but high enough for my Grandma.

Nasty horrbile bubble car. If your only giving lifts to people and you need extra space get an estate car much cooler

EDIT: Ive seen the boot space on these MPVs and its tiny!

So to sum up dude thats a NO its rubbish. I have been in one a few times and the only good thing about is the dash is funky and it had a plastic fold out tray for picnic food :D

My dad has one as it was ideal for his work....comfy driving positions and nice high open rear cabin with good space saving he could lug stuff around in. With all the back seats out, it was basically like a van with windows.

However, the car is literally falling apart around his ears. It's so unreliable its quite funny. Every week something else has gone wrong with it.

She's now looking at this:-

Here's the spec:-

Model: VAUXHALL ZAFIRA 1.6 CLUB 16v 7 SEATER *27,000 MILE

Registration: 04 2004

Details:
in ultra blue metallic fitted with power steering flex 7 seating air conditioning remote central locking electric windows adjustable drivers seat front airbags all diagonal 3 point seatbelts which has only covered 27,000 miles from new in the hands of 1 owner and comes with a full main dealer service history immaculate throughout

Price: £ 6395

Suppose it's a slightly better option, the only downside for me is its a vauxhall which I personally rate slightly above a Rover, but meh am not really gonna be driving it that much. Am only posting here to gather opinions and perhaps reviews from people that will have more experience of these vehicles than me.

I couldn't think of anything much worse than driving a 1.6l MPV on the motorway. Just go for a decent sized saloon.

Why does she keep picking cars like this? Seriously? We need to know why she thinks she needs a car like that, this will help us recommend an alternative more efficiently.

why on earth buy a car just because she car shares? do the rest of them have people carriers?
