I was wondering if any one has beel overclocking there monitor, as I've heard talk of a pls display which can do 2560x1440@120hz

At the moment I have a 27inch 120hz 1920x1080 display and a hazro 27inch 2560x1440 display, but I would like to get rid of both and have the best of both world's. As I really dont want to go back to 60hz and cant stand 27" @1080 way too blocky.

So I have made this thread, as I can not find anything like it online. Any updates would be great and also hopefully get OCUK at the top of the search list on google when people are looking for this info. I will try to update as much as I can.

How Im going to structure it is in 4 sections....

1st being highest overclock so what monitor can get the maximum hz @1080be it 144hz screen to begin with how farcan we puch lcd tech

2nd being the best overclockable 60hz 1080 display.

3rd being the highest hz capable screens at 2560x1440 or 1600

Think of these parts as the heaven benchmark in the gpu section.

Lastly will be a list of just makes and model and what they have achived.

So let it begin :D

I'm running my Qnix PLS at 80Hz at the moment, yet to try higher. Also I'm only on a 5870 so that might be a limiting factor.

I have my Overlord Tempest X270OC at 120Hz. Might be it does more but I haven't tried as I wanted a refresh rate divisible by 24Hz.

From the reports I've read, those overclockable QNIX PLS displays indeed seem to go higher than the Tempest and Catleap 2B. However, when overclocked there are reports of pixels going darker. The overall screen quality is also meant to be noticeably worse

Tried new cable and will only go to 63hz before the image goes all blurred. There is a option in the factory menu next to the 60hz saying amp which I tried raising one notch to see if it helped get higher Hz but it made no difference. Might pick up one of the Korean 27" screens.

I bought mine during the original September 2012 pre-order, and I'm based in Belgium, not UK. But, bearing all that in mind, paid:

Product Subtotal: $464.99
Shipping & Handling: $87.75 (USPS' el-cheapo shipping)
Pre-order Discounts: -$25.00
Sub-total: $527.74
Sub-total in Euros: about EUR400

PLUS:
EUR91.80 in combined VAT and import duties
EUR25.00 "processing fee" by the nice charitable folks at Belgian customs

Grand total: just under EUR520
--> I.e., about 440 quid

I understand that the tax/customs situation in UK is a little less severe than Belgium, but you need to keep in mind that the monitors aren't going for USD$440 any more. They cost USD555. Still very much worth it, but...more!

Well my vote is for the Tempest because I remain convinced it's the best one all round...though non-Americans like us do need to bear things like shipping in mind.

The Catleap 2B is quite similar but much more expensive and currently only available on eBay (120Hz.net's supply seems to have dried up for now). Unlike Overlord Computer, I do not think that Witech/Yamakasi company is particularly nice to the consumer, but I won't elaborate.

The new QNIX's are interesting. They're cheapest, come with free shipping (like the Catleaps) and, IF you get one that can overclock, it seems from reports that many are hitting 120Hz if not quite a bit higher. However, there are also reports that overclocking seems to darken the pixels, possibly due to something related to PLS technology.

In any case, remember that this is overclocking. It comes with potential risks, and 120Hz is never guaranteed. Many get there, some a little higher, but some others only manage 105-118Hz. It's luck of the draw, just like when overclocking your 'K' CPU chip from Intel

Tbh anything over 100hz would be ok with me as I only have a 580 that will struggle to run that res maxed out anyway. What's your views on the crossover screens?

Crossover 27Q (or the 27Q LED-P version) is in my opinion the best of the 1440p IPS 'Korean' screens off eBay. Particularly good housing and stand, all metal.

EDIT: HOUSING IS METAL, STAND IS PLASTIC, SORRY

That said, it doesn't support anywhere near 120Hz overclocks as it doesn't have the magic PCBs. It will probably support up to 67Hz, MAYBE 75Hz, but as I said you ideally want 100Hz or more.

You could always buy the PCBs from Overlord Computer and drop it into one of the 60Hz screens, but you'd have to be willing to mod the housing on the Crossover. Word is that the Achieva Shimian is best for the PCB swap because it's a direct drop-in requiring no modding

I hope so...but there has been at least 1 thread on 120Hz.net where people reported back from the big TV and monitor expos. They went around to booths specifically to quiz manufacturers on this, and apparently there is little-bordering-on-no interest in making such a combo and refresh rate native. Sad news. We can only hope that they all said this because they are secretly working like crazy to be the first company to deliver such a combo to market

Remember that most of the time the people manning the stalls at such expos are usually PR agents rather than engineers or individuals employed by the company directly. They probably knew that nothing of that sort was in the pipeline and probably was never discussed with them. I have spent some time talking with individuals from LG, Samsung and Dell (engineers and managers) about this sort of thing and I know they are aware of this desire.

I have already cast my own somewhat pessimistic outlook on proper 120Hz IPS in the past and don't really see LG pushing for this sort of thing but I hold out more hope for Samsung. I too wish the panel manufacturers would separate the notion of 120Hz and '3D' a bit more (one was traditionally there to drive the other). I see this happening more and more from manufacturers such as BenQ and ASUS with their specific marketing of 'gaming monitors' and I do feel the message is getting across to the panel manufacturers as well.
