Your perspective on a new purchase

I am now thinking of this instead, after reading about the new amd processor.

Sorry i shouldhave mentioned - my plan is to ring overclockers and ask them to leave out the gpu as i have a gtx 780. Unless you would suggest i sell that and upgrade the gpu with the build? My budget is £1000 - £1200. thank you

I can build a PC but I would prefer it already built. I just don't believe it's actually worth a sufficient saving anymore. As for resol I would be gaming at 1080p although I will likely look at purchasing a 1440p monitor down the line.
Thanks

I would get at least 3200 speed Samsung b die based ram as it is more compatible with ryzen and ryzen performance is very influenced by memory speed.

Hi DarkHorizon - So as for the setup the only thing you would tweak is the memory? What's your view on gpu. I was going to suggest for it to be built without a gpu and then put in my gtx 780.

These are the only options offered for memory - i am guessing due to limitations of the motherboard?

Hi Harry, I unfortunately don't have a separate copy of windows so i will add that on. What would you suggest for a build?

Just thrown this together, windows can be had in many official places for a fraction of the price of this copy for a key like this however i cant really post that on here.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,190.64
(includes shipping: £12.30)

That is great! I really appreciate your help Harry, and thanks for the tip on windows. Is it worth me pushing to the 4ghz ryzen chip for the extra? Or would you say it's not worth it? I like the fact you got a 1080 in there too!

CPUS are kind of in a really funny purgatory at the moment. The performance difference in games between the two cpus ( the one you picked and the one i advise ) is pretty much not existent. The difference being games will start to get optimised for more cores ( the one you linked has two more cores to play with ) but at the moment that wont benefit you at all in anything other than development / editing scenarios so the buget is much better spent on a high end gpu. And, if down the line you do want more cpu power you can pop out the 1600 and sell it and then pop in a 1700 / 1700x. But i really don't see you feeling the need for more performance as 6 cores right now is more than enough and i don't see much being optimised for more than 6 cores for a good 5+ years yet.

Very grateful for your input Harry. I think i have found the set-up to go for!

One last thing Harry - if i want to purchase this set up you have made. Will i not need to add a cooler to the package? As i will ask ocuk to build this for me as complete? Many thanks

You will have to let us know how much ocuk want to build it for you :) i am curious about that. Though i suppose it likely differs on a per system basis.
