Your plans for 2010?

I was in the same boat earlier this year - I.e. Eisenmann on the 330d, suspension upgrade, etc.

I went for the M car.

I just cannot decide so I'm just going to see what happens and see if my decision is made for me. I'll either enjoy fiddling with mine and realise I've had no desire to change it, or one day a totally mint Estoril Blue M5 will be for sale and I'll think 'Awesome!'.

The sticking point is the £7-8k cost to change into something which 80% of the time is the same as what I have now.

You are looking for a gold plated needle in that particular haystack

Never seen an Imola Red E39 or E46 without a black interior. Infact I'm not even sure you can get them with beige, as is the case with Titanium Silver?

I'd settle on black leather - I always thought beige and red was a particularly good combination (on any car)

Just wouldnt want grey I dont think - but even Red 330d tourings are nearly impossible to find, let alone with nav

Just retrofit the Nav, its about a grand.

A grand

The reason I'd want it is for the proper iPod interface, so thats an extra cost. Is it not a mare of a job too?

Finish the service on the A4, only the aux belt (ordered the wrong one) and gearbox oil (need tamper-proof drain plug removal tool) to go.

Sort out the carbs on the SP3, or replace with Norge. Latter preferred, but it probably won't happen :(.

The actual navigation functionality of the BMW nav is inferior to anything you'd buy new on the market today including portable navigation devices - the Mk4 system itself dates from 2002 so is almost 8 years old, and it was an evolution not a revolution of the now 10 year old Mk3 system. So it's only natural it's not going to be as good as current generation kit.

However it just looks so... right in the interior :(

Can you not fit the housing and retro a modern touchscreen into the space of a similar size?

Or is it integration you want?

I have never seen an aftermarket double DIN install that looks right. Infact no, I've seen one - one guy made his own from a faulty BMW monitor. But its really hard to do. I like the integration idea.

My rationale was that I would rather spend the money on an M rather than spending the money on my 330 to only realise that I still wanted an M car anyway.

Secondly, it would have always been an unscratched itch if I hadn't done it :)

You are luckier in that your preffered choice of M car is newer, that said you went for a 2003 and there are 2003 M5's....

arhghghghghgh :D

My plans for 2010:
- Keep the Focus until May/June, and do absolutely nothing to it. I don't want to spend anymore money on what is essentially a £1.8k/£2k car and not see the return when I sell it.
- Might buy my brothers 106 GTi. If I buy this, the Focus goes. This can happen anytime during the year.
- May/June time look for a bigger and better car. Something more refined. I was kidding myself when thinking about a W212 or an F10 on my wage (at end of 2010/start of 2011). I've set my targets to realistic ones now. I'll continue to save and see what cars are available at the time I want to buy. :)

Oh, and I'd like an automatic too :D

I might clean it, may even 'detail' it :p

Fix some niggly issues like speedo cable which I've ignored for the last 2 months or so, and probably gonna need new front tyres during the year.

Only 'upgrade' is possibly getting a nice bluetooth headunit when I can see if I can use my android phone as a bluetooth music source on any headunit, use an iPod atm but it's a bit of a pita carrying that around whereas I always have my phone on me...

Fox, my post recently about the garage replacing my BMW Pro HU in my 1 series. They've offered me a direct replacement, or a £400 voucher for use in the shop they use.

I went to visit today, and they had a double din fascia for a 1 series, looked awesome actually, and then I saw a really nice Kenwood Sat Nav/DVD/iPod/Bluetooth unit.

Now normally, I wouldn't look twice at it, but it only had 2 buttons on the unit itself, the rest is all touch screen. so it wouldn't look too out of place I don't think. And the backlighting of the buttons has a setting to be the same colour (orange) as the rest of the dash). And I'm thinking the off OEM look might be worth the fact I'd no longer need AUX cables and TomTom charger cables all over my car.

But do you reckon it's worth it?

It would only cost me £400 with fitting due to the garage covering the rest

Once ive recovered enough to drive again, on the 328 sport I will;

Ditch the angel eyes, refit standard gearknob.
Full alignment.
Replace guibo
Refurb the sunflowers or get some contours/sport bbs.
Replace the rear difuser that dissapeared in a recent flood.
Buy a evo lip.
Fix rear headrest rattle.
Enjoy driving again!

I might finally buy a car of my own if I decide not to go skiing again. That'd be novel.
