why are you suprised by that when the average yeild of a standard U.S. nuke today is 630 Megatons. it would take 3 to destroy the U.K and most of the southwest of france.
That's so incorrect it's hilarious. I hope you're taking the mick. The largest single bomb in the active US stockpile is the B83, with a maximum yield of 1.2 Megatons. Trident D5's have MIRV capibility, meaning they can carry multiple warheads, and disperse them over a large area. This missle can carry up to eight warheads, at 475 Kilotons a piece.
The B53 bomb, part of the United States' 'Hedge Stockpile', (meaning these weapons are fully operational but not connected to delivery systems) is 9 Megatons, and the largest yield weapon in the US inventory. About 50 are still in service.
