Your Satnav..

i dont understand what the problem with middle lane hoggers is

Theres always an outside lane to overtake them if you dont agree with what speed they are doing.

Not the point. Because it's illegal to undertake, middle lane hogs reduce the potential flow rate of the road by effectively turning a three lane carriageway into a two lane one.

i suppose if you had a whole motorway full of them

in my experiece its just the odd moron who everybody overtakes and ignores. Hence why they dont register as being a pain in my experience.

It's still annoying if there is one, but quite often there is a whole load of muppets tailgating the middle lane cruiser who haven't bothered to overtake.

Always used the night mode but I do keep it on my left hand side, as I find it much easier to interact with - Just personal preference, really... and then there's the annoyance of the power adapter.

Do you mean in the middle? I always have it in the middle :)

I don't have an issue leaving my Tomtom in daylight mode even at the dead of night when I'm travelling down the Motorways, only rarely do I feel the need to switch to night mode due to it distracting me.

I'd say if you are that uptight about such things, perhaps public transport is actually a better option for yourself! :D

Can you imagine the fall-out if you came accross a Ling-Long shod Corsa, in the middle lane of an empty motorway, at the dead of night, with a Tomtom in daylight mode? :D

Unfortunately, we have to share the roads with everyone, as much as I'd like to get rid of Caravans, MLOC members, and a raft of other annoying people, it just isn't going to happen..

since when is it illegal to undertake? i do it all the time in spec areas as people automatically seem to go into the right hand lane with their dodgy speedo's while im doing 70 on the inside lane. in fact there are issues that can arrise where it is compulsory to undertake.

Highway code bit on motorways says:
Overtaking
267

Do not overtake unless you are sure it is safe and legal to do so. Overtake only on the right.

Highway code bit on motorways says:

"Now this basically says that being a middle lane moron is fundamentally LEGAL, but he does concede that the Road Traffic Act 1991 can be used to prosecute 'inconsiderate driving', so there is some hope there. Mr Doyle also states that UNDERTAKING IS LEGAL. Good news. Although he does point out that the Plod will look dimly on undertaking as it is potentially a careless or dangerous act. Hardly carte blanche to do what you want, then."

So it's not an offence but is against the advice of the highway code. I will continue to do it where I think it is safe and I cannot see any police cars then :).

the difference in that is? passing someone on the inside lane is undertaking so how can they be different?

No, undertaking is a manoeuvre involving changing lanes to overtake on the left. If you're in the left hand lane, they're in the middle lane, and you continue past them, that's not undertaking.

That's not the point though. Idiots with poor lane discipline just **** up the motorway for everyone else. If Lane 1 is empty, then they should be in it. End of.
