everyone still alive?

i noticed last week that as the temp was getting toward 2* to 3*C int he morning mine an increase in issues getting power down, nothing else changed, just had to stop being so heavy with the right foot.

the other night (up north) had a make a trip to chester, -7*. on the gritted roads everything seems the same as above, but obviously didnt want to take any chances.

drove home lastnight, -4* to -5* all the way back, 220 miles on the motorway, and all seemed well

so with vredestein sportrac 3s and c.200bhp through the front wheels, im still alive, but obviously once it gets icy no one can defy physics unless they fit something studded

They are sodding awful, the rear end goes on what appears to be completely clear roads, thus leading me to the conclusion that it's the temperature and not the road conditions themselves that are leading to the skittish feeling I'm getting from the rear.

Toyo T1-Rs BTW.

My Leon Cupra R (260~ BHP through the front) actually feels "ok" (not great) with it's Falken FK452's all round.

Eagle F1 GSD3s are utterly hideous on cold roads. They're amazing in the summer, and very good in the wet, but yesterday they were hopeless. Dunno if it's partly down to my car's weight, or lack thereof, but it's impossible to get the best out of the car when it's this cold, as I'm sure people who I took for a passenger ride yesterday will attest to! There's either understeer, oversteer or locking up upon braking... Still, keeps you on your toes I guess ;)

Mondeo is fine though, Conti SC3s seem a bit more cold weather friendly!

im wheel spinning everywhere, although the tyres are only 6 days old and have done about 40miles... So its understandable.

As I've said in other threads, the Jag (FK452's all round, 245 on front 275 on back) are OK once warmed up, but as I only live about 15 minutes from where I work, most of the journey is very tentative, and junctions are the worst. Not so bad on straight junctions, but pulling out of a side road can often lead to tail wagging...

Even though it's been cold here, i haven't had any slippage of the wheels so far on my RE050A's - not sure if it's because it just hasn't been very icy though?

Having said that, last winter they were absolutely awful. I was struggling to get up the smallest of inclines and had to be so careful on bends. It was pretty embarrassing to have Fiesta's driving up hills with ease whilst i was snaking around behind them barely moving :(.

Still, for the other 350 days of the year, they kick ass :D

I think directional treads (like the toyos and eagle f1s) are a little more treacherous than tyres like the conti's especially when you get a good layer of frost or slush.

but obviously once it gets icy no one can defy physics unless they fit something studded

I'd disagree with that.

FK452's seem to be holiding up ok at the moment, we had a good dusting of snow on Saturday, which is still on the ground, temperature has been around -2 during the day and between -7, -8 at night / in the morning.

i was round your way at the weekend. sunday, during the day, in the towncentre, the car didnt show above -3*C at all

I've been fine driving sensibly, its only hit -1 here, but it did get a bit slippery on the roads yesterday with a bit of snow.

Yea, it felt artic cold yesterday once the sun went down.

Luckly my car doesn't freeze up overnight so i don't have to worry quite as much about the coolant system freezing up, might give the antifreeze levels a check this weekend, reports state it's going to get down to -13 on Friday.

Got the Toyo T1-R's on the Fabia vRS, alright on slush but useless on compacted snow. I need something with a better tread pattern.
