Hi all,

I just setup an Ubuntu server on a new ATOM 330 build and wondered what else people are using on theirs for?

My Setup

Ubuntu Server 9.04
Samba Shares
Webmin for easy admin
SSL also for quick terminal stuff

I also tried installing Firefly Media Server using someonline guides but cannot connect to the weburl for some reason. Anyone else using this have any ideas?

Cutting "Ubuntu" out of the title might make this more relevant: I don't have an ubuntu server, but have several other servers which do things like DNS/DHCP for example.

Isn't that like saying "post pics of your BMW" then someone saying "Cutting "BMW" out of the title might make this more relevant: I don't have a BMW but I do have several other cars.. "

You could look at it like that... however you have to bear in mind that the car forums are likely to be substabtially busier than the linux forum here... and as gnu/linux is by default fragmented anyway, I'm just suggesting that it *may* be a good idea to lose the ubuntu part as the op would get more legit responses.

I understand what you're saying. Just think a specific question has been asked and opening it up wouldn't provide answers the OP is after.

We have 4 servers at work I could go into great detail about but none of them relate to the the original question.

We have a Tomcat server that's on Ubuntu. Not sure for how long though, although it works fine for some reason i find it hard to believe in Ubuntu as a server OS.

Mine -

Fujitsu Siemens Mini Desktop (Small Form Factor)

Pentium 4 1.7Ghz
640mb RAM
40Gb Harddrive

Roles Ubuntu Server 9.04

Samba Shares - Tools, common programs e.t.c.
DHCP - For my whole home network.
Apache 2 - Webserver, not really needed but handy for testing.
SSH - To access the console from anywhere.
Media Tomb - For PS3 media server.

:)

I have a VM running ubuntu server ... things it does (from memory)

- samba share for temp stuff
- SSH access
- DNS
- DHCP server
- Manages offsite backups of NAS data
- ntop for network monitoring
- lamp stack for trying out web apps

Just got firefly media server running. Problem was with my media location.

That brings me to: -

- Ubuntu Server 9.04
- Samba Shares
- Webmin for easy admin
- SSL also for quick terminal stuff
- Firefly Media Server

My next task is to get PS3 Media Server as this can stream Hi-Def files which I don't believe Media Tomb does?

Do you guys all leave your server on 24/7? I did have it doing DHCP/DNS but switched back to the router a my server isn't required all the time.
