Your Views on Dell SP2309W

Interested as well. I'm tempted to get the Dell 27" 2709W but could go for this instead, it depends on the vertical (below) viewing angles.

Anyone know how badly the screen darkens when looking from below on the SP2309W? (looking up slightly with eye level near the bottom of the monitor?)

Same panel as the 23" samsung on this week only, just with mics, webcam, hdmi, and a glossy screen... I'm going for the samsung.

This was £200 direct last week and now is £211, then £10 more will get you one with a 3yr RTB warranty for any amount of dead pixels, PM me if you want the link.

Big thread at HUKD :)

yep,
Well ill be plugging in my 360 and PS3 in the monitor so the HDMI will be handy

and the Webcam and Mic will be nice to have.

And yep i saw that deal as well, its only until the end of this week though, it should be going up again next week.

Besides who know, perhaps OCUK will put it on the next This Week Only and reduce it by £30...please....

Also im looking at that thread at HUKD now, 11 pages, nice

Good luck with whichever you go for :)

Given the difference, I'm pretty sure I'm going for the samsung - £50 will pay for L4D, a mic, a cheapo MP3 player which I won't mind losing when I go to Germany next month, and the hdmi adapter which Is really the only thing I'm missing out on.

2048x1152 works fine with any games so far that I've tried and due to the size of the display the odd aspect ratio doesn't look bad.

I have the samsung and its great really really good monitor.

I'm using one of the samsungs at this resolution and its fantastic. The only gripe i've got with this is the thought of watching my graphics card run through hoops to play games at this resolution. Source seems ok though.

Can someone with the Samsung or Dell take a picture looking up from the bottom bezel and post it on here and an eye level comparison picture? I need to see how dark it is from the bottom.

Bare in mind this is from pretty much the worst possible angle, with the display on minimum brightness and 24 contrast with a rubbish camera phone :D

At the end of the day its a TN panel - theres a good tolerance (for a TN panel) within a narrow range of normal viewing angles but outside of that it very quickly changes color - tho it doesn't really get dark. If you eye level is around about the bottom of the panel and your looking straight at it then theres hardly any change in brightness/color - but if your looking up at it from a close angle its a bit worse.

On an OC'd 260GTX left 4 dead on max settings with 4x FSAA drops to around 50-60fps in heavy action (personally I like ~100fps).

Farcry 2 pumps out perfectly playable fps on high settings but on ultra drops to 30s in places - possibly even upper 20s which is a long way below acceptable for me.

Older games fly.

Im so stuck on whether to go for the Asus VH226H which i have on order but just recently discovered this Dell and the Samsung! Thinking about sending the Asus back for the Dell but £210 would leave my wallet empty :(
The again the Dell is 23" and im sitting at a desk & dont really fancy turning blind at age 40.

Asus:
21.5" 1920x1080
Bad DVI cables out the box
Issues of backlight bleed
£55 cheaper

Dell:
23" 2048x1152
Better quality cabes out the box
Mic + Cam (but are they worth it or just adding selling features)

Unless you like glossy panels I'd say go for the samsung

If you can get enough room to move it as far back as possible it would be better for your eyes than a smaller display close up.

Have to say the camera on this Sony Ericsson X1 is RUBBISH especially as its almost £800 worth of phone - it might be 3.2mpx but it takes so long processing the scene you can't help moving a little and blurring the image.

My 2 year old daughter will be using it and she looks up at the screen. I recently returned a Digimate 24" with a TN panel because it was so dark when looking up so I was hoping the newer TN panels would be better.

Thanks for the pic and info! I might just get one anyway and build her a computer with a smaller desk etc lol.

I decided to go for it and bought the SP2309W! Should be here tomorrow. Got the Premium Pixel Guarentee for the duration of the 3 year warranty too.
