Your/Weather/Too. - rant

And why are people accepting it, and even defending it?

As much as I've come to largely ignore the travesties of spelling, grammar & punctuation frequently plastered across the internet, this is still a sticking point to me - I can understand that it's sometimes inevitable, occasionally I can bring myself to understand how it's less bother, but why people think there's nothing wrong with it is beyond me. Alas, arguing the point is pretty pointless - nobody with poor writing skills is going to take the incentive to do something about it from a forum. All we can do is suck it up and hope they never pass on their ignorance.

As an afterthought, I don't mean any offence by the latter part of that paragraph. 'Ignorance' happens to be the most appropriate word and it's a shame that it carries such negative, offensive connotations, but I'm not willing to compromise literal accuracy for the sake of appeasement.

Someone on these very Forums not too long ago wrote:

The levels of people's ignorance never seizes to amaze me.

And you're picking on whether/weather. It's like brushing the ice off the front of the Titanic so it looks nicer going down. :(

There's always a chance that this was an Eggcorn, which are always hilarious!

My favourite one was in a meeting recently where our networks manager asked about a 'knowledge suppository'. Or maybe the guy who told me he might change his name by 'default', as opposed to deed poll. :D

This is basic Primary School English. It isn't difficult to know what the word TO and TOO means, and from a young age we know what weather is. When did it...........

You are not understanding, most people know that it is wrong, they just do not correct it or are too stuck in their minds to not type the way that they do.
This isn't the days of letters and typewriters any more, communication has evolved significantly and peoples usage of words has evolved with it.

Devolved, surely.

That's not evolving, that's getting stupid. No, its not the days of typewriters anymore, with that you have to start again, now you just press delete. It is so much easier.

Why would a person deliberately type out the wrong word?
