So it's a little windy outside and this got me thinking.. The windows sound like they're going to just blow out of their place, the building shakes and wobbles and the whistle through the windows is really annoying.

That aside, the rest of the building is poor quality, it is not very modern at all, in fact there isn't really anything modern about it. The Air Con has a sensor at the other end of the room, so it measures the temperature from the side which doesn't get the sun so where I sit it is a lot hotter.

The toilets are old, dirty despite being cleaned daily and just a general disaster, leaking from the urinals etc often occurs. There is no real modern facility, we have some hot water and cold water dispensers and a vending machine.

It's just a generally poor place to look at. I work in IT..

What field of work do you work in and what is your building quality and facilities like?

I work in manufacturing, the offices aren't too bad the MD seems to be on a push to smarten the place up a bit so there's a fair bit of work going into them at the minute.
I'd love aircon of any type though it gets crazy hot in here during the summer.

The factory next door is relatively clean considering we manufacture carpet so there's always going to be a lot of dust and fluff, although the toilets over there are still stuck in the 60/70s including the signs about anyone caught damaging them will be dealt with using an old factories act.

I work in a building with no windows, which in turn is situated inside a hanger of sorts.

It's grrrrrrreat.

The windows by my desk are so poor that on a windy day, the rain is driven in through the seals and sprays onto my desk. When I mentioned it to HR I was given a tea towel...

How nice and considerate of them.. Maybe mine isn't so bad then LOL

I shouldn't laugh, but I did :D

Up until a few years ago I was always worked in a large out of town office building with a large on-site canteen, free parking etc. Didn't realise how lucky I was until I started contracting and had to use park and ride, pay or move the car between free parking bays with limited hours.

Current and last place are right in the town centre, no staff canteens but surrounded by cafes and sandwich bars which can get expensive.

A friend works for a small company where 20 people share a single toilet. The boss doesn't pay for a cleaner so the staff have to keep the office, kitchen and toilet clean themselves. As you can imagine nothing gets cleaned often enough.

OP sounds like he works in my office!

70s concrete monstrosity

The office I'm in is relatively long and thin, with a single radiator the full length of the room which seems to be on 24/7. There's an aircon unit at each end, which are utterly pointless given the size of the room. It basically means that the people sitting on the row of desks at each end of the room are freezing cold in jumpers and jackets, while everyone else is sat dripping with sweat in ~28c heat.

We have a lovely view of a brick wall through the windows, and if we open them, there's a lovely smell of bin juice from the recycling centre across the road.

People periodically dribble/smear on the toilet seats, and the urinals break on a daily basis.

There is a very large improvement project beginning in a few months though, which should result in a far more pleasant working environment.

It involves the building being demolished. :D

I count myself pretty lucky really. I have a parking space, a good space around my desk, a good chair, free coffee machine, a decent canteen and the building is in the city centre so within walking distance of amenities.

There are some gripes. My desk is split at the front, and I share a false floor with a server room so it's cold, but these are minor in the grand scheme of things. There aren't enough gents (despite working in IT and the men outnumbering the women there are more women toilets in the building) and they clean them during the day too so they're closed at times.

My old office was one of the worst buildings I'd ever worked in, every time the wind was strong, all the tiles in the suspended ceilings would lift up when someone opened the door

Most of the windows leaked in the driving rain
The HVAC system was one of two extremes e.g. nuclear hot or freezing cold
The Car park reguarly flooded
Urinals reguarly leaked & took ages to get fixed
The lift broke down on a weekly basis

When the landlords took the building back over after the lease expired they tried to charge the company for repairs to the building, it would have been cheaper to knock the building down & rebuild it

Glad to be out of there

Office is not bad really so cant complain.

- I have my own double desk space and comfortable chair!
- We have a (good) free coffee machine in the kitchen with fresh milk supply!
- Shared office toilets on all floors - always clean!
- Canteen downstairs - a rip off but decent food and good in a pinch!
- short walk to other small off licences and a 5 min drive to town with everything!

Worked in some terrible places before hand so quite happy now :)

This is me

Work in a '70s office block. Our office in it is modern and well kept, plenty of space around my desk, good view, decent toilets, a parking permit for the road outside, and a short walk to the town centre.

On the downside, the AC isn't always set very well (seems to take 24 hours to adjust to a change in outside temperature), the lifts are fairly regularly troublesome, the entrance foyer is a bit dated, the onsite cafe is a bit crap, and the building is being redeveloped in about a year so we'll be moving.

I'm accounts dept in a business communications agency.

I've always worked near to town/city centres or local high streets, would absolutely hate to be on a campus or business park.

I work in a warehouse which was converted into offices in the 80's (judging by the infrastructure) and modernised quite recently. Its alright actually, nice modern breakfast area, huge open office with double height ceiling etc, but there is a weird mixture of bespoke engraved glass walls and carpets with the company logo on, combined with 80's electricals and foam tiles, combined with metal stairwells and things... Bit odd. :p

I'm in a modern-ish building (<20 years old) within 2 mins walk of the town centre. I've got two desks with a pair of 22" monitors and sit by a full height window on the 2nd floor with a view of a church and some houses. Free tea/coffee/squash/chilled water and a small canteen downstairs for bacon butties or toast for breakfast, and a decent selection of sandwiches & some hot food for lunch. The toilets are usually clean and fully functioning. It's not noisy or crowded - 6 of us share 12 desks - and the people I work with are all friendly. Plus there's a fair bit of eye candy on the rest of the floor.

My only gripes are that I sit under the AC vent and it can be a bit chilly at times, and the office is 40 miles away from home :(

My "office" ranges from brand new to 3 years old. It has air-con and an air seat. Awesome view out of the windows too !!

:D

I think the building i'm in is about 10 years old. But is pretty state-of-the-art. It's mostly open-office, so climate control air-con, means i can wear a t-shirt all year round. Huge windows so no sound of wind, the only downside is that the huge windows do turn themselves into radiators during the summer. The toilets are starting to look a little shabby, but working in an IT environment where the ratio is about 90% men, 10% women, it's no wonder the gents is probably looking a little tired now.

Building is 3 years old
Free Parking
Coffee shop that is 1/2 the price of Starbucks and much better
Subsidised canteen with very good food
Gym and Astroturf pitch for lunchtime 6 v 6 games
Showers/Changing rooms and lockers
Good workstations, desks, chairs etc...
Onsite nursery with fully tax deductible childcare
Massages on a Friday

I think that's mostly it.

I work in a school so...... everything is old, broken, old and broken, or cobbled together with string, gaffer tape, and araldite.
