Interesting story on BBC Radio 1 this morning talking about how some LGBTQ videos on YouTube were hidden from view due to restricted mode blocking them.

Now my point for discussion is this, should issues like this be restricted in the restricted mode?

Rowan Ellis, who makes videos about pop culture from a feminist and LGBT perspective, made a video saying 40 of her videos are blocked in Restricted Mode.

"It's something that people are just starting to realise the extent of it, particularly in regards to LGBT content.

"This is something that no-one is really sure how it's working.

"I think it's really important to look at why LGBT has been deemed as inappropriate."

It's the bolded part of this quote that I find interesting, I can see why more indepth things are blocked to be honest as you may not want your child to see videos about such a topic being discussed openly and in depth.

So thoughts? Prude? Over the top being blocked?

I'm all for freedom of information. Personally I don't think YT should be blocking LGBT videos. Porn and snuff films or graphic violence yes but why LGBT? Maybe I'm missing something.

Not even in restricted mode?

I don't think anyone would say they should be blocked outside of a restricted mode as that would most definitely be bad.

I stuck my finger in a dike once. I did stop the flood.

Sounds like a Take That song.

If it's happening then I can't see why LBGT stuff should be restricted. Obviously it will depend on the actual content itself but I am generally not in favour of restrictions.

i don't see the issue - just click the allow button.

If parents are blocking certain things then that is their decision, not mine.

never come across anything restricted in the UK, didnt even know it was a thing here.

In South Korea half of youtube is "restriced" until you confirm your age using a Korean mobile phone number (which i didn't have this time round), they block anything over 15 rated including loads of gaming VODs and any "red band" trailers.
In the end i used to just VPN out of Korea to get my sweary gorey movie trailers.
