YouTube compression ?

So I uploaded a 20mb video to my channel and then re-downloaded it via the edit options and YouTube shrank it down to 1mb and the quality is horrendous, This normal ?

On the actual channel the video looks fine but I download it and the quality goes the way of the dodo.

It sometimes takes a few moments before the full quality version is processed.

Well the video was shot in 480P and uploaded as such and even has the 480P option in the quality settings, Guessing it's just YT's horrid compression at work then
