Launches tomorrow apparently.

https://gaming.youtube.com

One year and one day after Google lost Twitch.tv to Amazon, YouTube Gaming is going public. Starting tomorrow, users can head down to http://gaming.youtube.com (or download the app) to check out the new interface, see who's streaming, or start a stream themselves. We went hands-on with a pre-release version of YouTube shortly after the June announcement, and very soon the site will be ready for public consumption.

YouTube calls YouTube Gaming the "go-to destination for anything and everything gaming." It not only shows who is live streaming, but serves as a collection point for all gaming content on YouTube. YouTube Gaming automatically categorizes YouTube's gaming content and sorts it by game and by the content of video. This allows users to easily see the most popular content for their favorite game.

A beta version of the new live streaming dashboard is also launching tomorrow. The new dashboard makes streaming less of a scheduled event and more of a casual thing that streamers can do whenever they want. Streaming on YouTube Gaming is done on HTML5, and, unlike Twitch, streamers can enable a "DVR Mode" that buffers the last four hours of a stream and allows viewers to rewind.

YouTube Gaming will give Twitch.tv the biggest competition in the live streaming space it has ever seen. Almost every Twitch streamer also uses YouTube for archival purposes and as an additional revenue stream, and now YouTube is a one-stop-shop for every kind of gaming video on the Web.

Starting tomorrow, YouTube says gaming.youtube.com should work for users "in any country where YouTube is available." The Android phone and tablet app launches tomorrow, too, in the US and UK with "other countries coming soon." The iOS app will be available at this link, and for now everything is English-only.

Interesting, will be following this closely.

Could it however be another Facebook vs Google+ situation though?
Google+ released to rival Facebook, flops, then disappears.

Equally Twitch could go the way of Myspace if the Youtube player is as good as the regular channel.

All depends what the big name streamers will want to do and which platform provides the most income. The viewers will follow the streamers whether it be YouTube or Twitch. Is there any news on subscriptions / ads etc and who would provide the streamer the best income?

Maybe that'll bring people's attention to the fact twitch isn't the only game streaming site around (Though it is the biggest).

Will be interesting to see if HitBox see's any increase or decrease in their viewers and users are people start trying out alternatives to twitch.

Will be interested to see how this goes, some credible competition for Twitch would certainly be a good thing, if only to push them on to improve their service.

Can't wait, absolutely hate twitch's player.

Yeah, still using flash in 2015.

...and which platform provides the most income.

This.

Streamers make a lot from Twitch, there's no way they'll switch unless they get more money for it.

Even if they did, I'd be weary, many Youtubers talking about their revenue being halved, I wonder if Youtube would play the same trick with this... offer more money until everyone is using it, then drop the income down.

yotube>twitch for media so if youtube gets this right then have the whole package. personally i hope they do because the crap you get issues with twitch is annoying.

could be worrying for smaller streamers though who built up followings and maybe even the big boys.

I've done a few test streams with this and it's just like twitch from from a streamers perspective. Pretty damn easy to use and the quality is good too. It's also fully adjustable in terms of quality from the start regardless of channel size, which twitch doesn't offer sadly.

The only user I normally watch on Twitch is:
http://www.twitch.tv/squirrel

Highly recommended if you like Euro Trucker!

Ironically he uploads a video on Youtube whenever he's streaming that says "Now streaming on Twitch"

I'd be interested in hearing his views on it, as he is now a full time game streamer, making his living off streaming. I wonder how the revenue models compare?

I find as an ageing gamer (37) that sometimes I'm just too tired to play a game if it's too late at night, but somehow seem to enjoy watching others play. It's bonkers really, I never thought I'd be watching game streams a few years ago.

I think it's popular across all age ranges, with people of all ages, genders and races streaming games, which is great to see.
