Hi all,

At the gf's parents house they are with (AOL) i know dont ask!

Netgear Router : DGN2000

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.0 db 8.0 db
Noise Margin 9.5 db 22.0 db

When playing Youtube or any Stream for that matter it starts fine but then has to sync agian or have to wait till its fully downloaded then watch it.

oh right! :( i dont get that at home! streams right through and my line stats are worse!

AOL suck. Not enough bandwidth to stream media. They'll need to pay a couple more quid per month if they want a decent experience. :)

What's your bandwidth then? I assume by the way you're talking it's much much higher than 8mb/s?

8128 kbps is more than enough for youtube mate.

The problem is with YouTube. It's slow as **** even on my 20Mb cable line.

OP, run a speedtest from http://www.speedtest.net/ and http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ and post the results.

Also, run command prompt and ping bbc.co.uk and youtube.com, and post the results.

Despite wanting to blame aol :), that's just youtube. If you use firefox the autobuffer script it can make life much easier. Pity there's nothing that can really be done when a video sites trying to stream millions of videos.

Someday they might use peercasting (p2p streaming), like wikipedia has just begun doing, but until then there's nada we can do really :(

ADSL sync speed has nothing to do with real world throughput. AOL do traffic shape. They have to because they price their products incredibly low.

He did mention "any stream". The issue isn't with YouTube.

Youtube - Iplayer - ITV player

but YouTube is the worst - almost every pc i use at gf's it does the whole stop - sync - stop - sync

Sorry for delay!

I shall do speed tests later for the

DGN2000 ive noticed that gf's dad is using all connections on the router + he has a switch connected to the router also (ill get the model no soon) so that maybe bottlenecking the router too.

OR as he bought the router from ebay (fairly cheap) i think it could be borked as wireless is utter pants!

Im at home atm and my router is:

Netgear is a DG434N

1 Main pc
360
PS3
2X Laptops Wireless

Speed Test http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/

Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 10:07 5267 kbps (658kB/s) 1023 kbps (128kB/s)

Speed Test: http://www.speedtest.net/

My router stats

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6305 kbps 1235 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.0 db 25.2 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 6.5 db

I have no issues here with streaming youtube / iplayer etc no sync times or anything like watching TV hell even playing iplayer through the PS3 has no loading issues!

You can't compare Be* to AOL. :)

Indeed true :P lolz

MIGHT try and try and change isp at gf's house IF her dad lets me, he's been with AOHell for years

Just did a check with Be

Yes, you can get BE broadband on - - -- - . It's probably going to be this fast:

19meg*

Though might go with 02 as GF just joined them and can get it for £7.50 or something for the 1st 3 months etc) as they use the same network

I'd expect 6.57Mb/s at 1PM. No doubt it's a different story 6PM onwards.

Go with Be*. It's the only decent LLU choice at the exchange.

ill have a talk with GF's dad and see if he would change over

i know there will be more mbps but will it solve the sync / loading issues?

i see from samknows that AOL isnt on LLU how much better is LLU?

Just thought id update

GF's dad will look into changing to 02/BE - But he wants to know if he can keep his AOL email etc.

Another note the router crashed today and while i was at it changed the DNS to Googles open DNS.

going to see if that does anything

You will be able to stream without it buffering every other second.

LLU performances varies between providers. Be* is one of the best LLU providers.
