Why are microsoft requiring you to have Xbox live gold account to use the Youtube feature on the Xbox?...Without a gold account it does not allow you to use Youtube!

I pay for my Internet connection,I own the Xbox console...and Youtube is a free service,Yet microsoft think its okay to say you cant use the Youtube feature if you dont hav a Gold account?

Youtube is owned by Google so I assume Microsoft doesn't want to help out one of it's main rivals?

They wouldn't have added it in the 1st place if that was the case. They want you staying on the xbox for longer, it's literally all to do with getting people to upgrade I think BBC Iplayer app (in the future) and maybe one of the other video apps right now might be one of the few services you can access for free atm.

hmm can just see it now .... non online gaming person thinks .....ive not got a pc .....i'll pay gold so i can youtube ...........erm yeah right

why do you have an xbox if your not willing to pay for xbl?

edit: and its like £3 a month, just have 1 less pint and enjoy having a decent service

Some of us don't use or need to use xbl.

I certainly don't need xbl but I coughed up the £6 3month offer on the dash just to play with youtube and was much disappointed.

My xbmc box is lightyears ahead of the xbox for media functionality

Exactly.

The features are there for Gold members as they pay for a service. The fact that they are free else where is irrelevant. Instead of moaning why not go use your pc to enjoy YouTube or whatever else?

I'm also disappointed that the streaming (YouTube, 4OD, Demand Five etc) isn't available free to silver members. I've not paid for XBL since GRAW/GRAW2 days as there's nothing I want to play and the 360 is only used (very rarely!) for playing videos from a USB stick.

If the streaming video services were free and I started to use the 360 again (rather than it just gathering dust under the telly!) then I may be inclined to actually go back to gaming and pay for XBL for online gaming.

Exactly, freebies and loss leaders will eventually increase sales.

How many of us got suckered in to the Android 10p app promotion ? I've never paid for android apps and found myself not only paying for 10p apps but also buying full priced apps too

Part of the reason I went and got an ATV is that I can watch iPlayer, 40D on my TV now.

I don't have a roof aerial nor Sky TV so my TV is pretty much a giant monitor and also means the only way i get to watch TV is online. I refuse to pay for a free service on the X-box to a point that I rather spend £99 on an ATV, then got a friend to jailbreak it for me and put XBMC (how ironic, X-Box Media Centre to play free stuff !) so I get to watch TV on my TV !
