YouTube Premium

Not a premium question but lately I'm noticing a lot of YouTube content is coming down to me at lower resolution. Often that poor that the text can't be made out on screen.

I tested my network and it's at full speed both ethernet and WiFi. I have 1 Gbps fttp. WiFi on my phone gets around 300-400 Mbps and the fire stick is connected this way, in close proximity to the router.

Anyone else getting any issues?

Just streamed a few videos this morning. They were all on 1080 on my phone and over 5G. Didn't have to touch the settings, I just usually check as I'm interested.

Youtube started popping up its "premium lite" for money pitch to me a week ago - at the same time as they blocked the ability to view video comments. I ain't paying.

£2.86 for family account.

If I had to pay UK prices I'd just get a family sub organised.

Trip to specsavers might be required ;)

YouTube often defaults the quality down and you have to manually put it back up.

Some videos are fine though, would that be a per channel setting or global?

It seems to be particular content that is coming in at lower resolution. Some crypto channels I watch.

95% of my YT watching is on my PC and with uBlock Origin installed, I basically don't miss Premium at all when it comes to advert interruption. It's only when watching on my phone that ads are a problem.
Same here.

If you are using iPhone, download SwizzTube from App store. It's what i use to watch all my youtubes.

I didn't even see an ad, I gave in and started paying.

I really don't need to worry if I'm paying £1/2/13 especially given a very good chunk of my watching is on several TVs.

Peace of mind and goodwill to all men :)
