YouTube Premium

It would be good to get some actual figures on the YouTube business model..

YouTube is there to make money yes?

They do this by selling advertising space within the videos that people want to watch.. but the amount of money they make from a single person watching a single 5 second advert (before they skip) must be miniscule..

So even if a person watched nothing but YouTube, and watched say 100-200 5 second adverts a day on there.. how much does YouTube make off that person?

For YouTube to make more money from people then they need to charge more for premium, than they would make of those people watching the adverts they would have watched?!?!

Depending on the figures above, I guess for people who do pretty much nothing but watch YouTube, then premium is a bad deal for YouTube, but for casual viewers it's a good deal for YouTube.

Would be interesting to actually know the figures..

I will keep on trekking the globe. No way am I paying £12.99 a month!!

Isn't that what I said in my post?!? I was just interested if anyone had some actual numbers.. i.e. if I watch say 20 hours of youtube a week, which is XX 5 second adverts.. how much do YouTube make of my viewing..

and at what level would I be tempted to give them money to make the adverts go away, which would also give them more money!

It’s not, it’s £16.99 for individual, I’ve just checked.

I had checked also.

Ok, so day one of returning home from Argentina, and both Ublock Origin and SwizzTube seem to be doing the business so far.

My subscription setup via VPN auto-renewed despite them emailing me and saying they wont be accepting payment from a card that is not issued from India (my card is from UK). The deadline to change the card or lose premium was earlier this month.

Anyone else have that happen?

Yeah I lost my Indian YouTube premium a few days ago .

But just signed up via kazakhstan, works out about £7.50 so quite a lot more than India but better than UK. Only took a few mins simple enough.

After a week you won’t miss premium.
You just adjust and move on.
I agree! Personally I do not need premium because I can use ublock /revanced /smart tube /vpn etc but the five family members are less tech savvy :( those are the people who are going to suffer when my premium ends sometime this month :D unless I can get a family plan working again.

These pages should help choosing a country and payment method ;)

My youtube premium payment method ends on the 1st of jan but I haven't tested any other methods out yet :p fingers crossed they leave me alone for a little while longer.
