Hi all,

Could I, hypothetically, take youtube clips (that are leeds united old school) nothing present, and make them into my own video for commercial use.

I do understand that you 'can and cant' with youtube attitude but how many people must have got away with it before.

thoughts appreciated all.

cheers.

Technically speaking, regardless of it you are using it for commercial or non-commercial use you need to seek permission from all those who have rights over it in order to use it.

The chances of being caught are minimal, but if you do get found out they will sue your ass off.

Who would have rights over old football clips? The club, or the station that aired the match?

like already said you need permission and best get it in writing, although i cant imagine this being given to you for free

the company who filmed it unless they were commissioned by the club and an agreement was struck for the club to retain the copyright

He is making a "how not to play football video" to sell on ebay

wow, you are a good example of how people take people wrong, and very wrong by your post.

No i am not, in fact I am not "making" anything. I am only curious. I am a football fan and had a simple idea - there is no world domination going on here.

bloody hell..............

I think it was a joke aimed at the fact you were looking for leeds united videos... Lighten up? :)

as far as i understand the FA/ premiership or whatever just sell on the rights to broadcast to the likes of Sky or Setanta

As far as I understood it, Sky, BBC, ITV, Setanta etc pay a fee and broadcast within a contract.

You might be right though, Im unsure.

Not in all cases because the league and premiership have different controlling bodies - why they don't simplify it ??

It's all controlled by the English Football Association (The FA)

Edit: They are goverened by different people but they're still part of the FA, its just the FA has no power on rule changes inside the non-premiership leagues.
