Youview box

Hi all,

Trying to convince my parents to upgrade to fibre, as we're on TalkTalk at the moment and it's rubbish. My dads concern is the youview box they provide, is there an alternative to this? It seals the deal!

TalkTalk offer Fibre broadband packages.

FTTC packages don't really differ much at the moment as they are all using BT's Wholesale network.

I can't find information on TalkTalk fibre upload speed which is what I need improving.

Minstadave - he's worried it won't work anymore if we change to Plusnet, i'm assuming this is the case, I said they'll be alternatives to the box.

EDIT: Fibre Medium up to 1.9 or Fibre Large up to 17mb for extra £10 a month... still cheaper to go with plusnet to get up to 19mb upload.

If he already has a talk talk box it'll still work if he leaves talk talk. He will loose the talk talk player but will still get all the freeview channels.

If he moves to BT they have a smaller, much faster Youview box which is very good.

Agree with that - the older youview boxes are quite painful to use.

That's good to know, what about the 7 day catch up feature, will that still work?

Think it will still work but can't find anything to confirm it 100%.

It will continue to work but just goes to the basic freeview mode with no pay to view etc. People buy them cheap off bay and gumtree from people who sell them on. The BT and TT ones are cheap.

I have one of the newer ones and its very good.

By pay to view, do you mean the 7 day rewind service? Sorry i'm a complete novice when it comes to youview.

So any channels they pay "extra" for. The 7 day catchup is a free service.

youview box will work ok for catch up as long as it has an internet connection as well as the freeview input
