went to see Pendulum last night and the warm-ups were playing this really filthy old skool british hip hop...but i wasnt very well going to go to the DJ booth and ask who they were. can anyone give me the names of any old skool UK hip hop acts...it's really weird to describe, but they're just nasty. filthy music :D

is that it?! awesome.

pendulum were astounding mate. absolutely fantastic. Pendulum and nitrous oxide is all you need!

i dont get it...i think you're referring to Oxide and Neutrino, but i might be wrong

so, c'mon...british hip hop, in a similar vein to Dizzee Rascal...what you got?! i have a feeling that B@th*nG (sp?) might have an answer...

I suppose there's the very gay sounding Lethal Bizzle.

Unfortunately the fact that DR is breaking out and doing fresh stuff means the rest are left to catchup. There's very little in the way of mainstream UK hip-hop in a similar vein tbh.

it's not really mainstream i'm after. 2 good examples are A-ball and Lady Paradox, but i figured no1 would have heard of them as i dont know how big they are. according to LadyP's myspace, she's done a lot of collaborations with various artists, but i dont know where to get any of their music from.

lethal bizzle never occured to me tbh. i'll check that out. thing is, most of the guys i've been listening to are white...i feel like i can identify with it because it's about going to parties and getting trashed and it's not as gang-oriented (in my limited experience)

still, we'll see what people recommend

really? why's that?

i dunno much british hip hop tbh... erm... roots manuva (dreamy days is an awesome track) but i'm not sure if it's quite what you're looking for tho

You need some Lady Sovereign. Check out the song 'Random'.

it just sounds really dirty. i guess that's because im used to gay rock love songs, and not, just really dirty hip hop. if you listen to a-ball and ladyP, you'll know what i mean

B@th*ng, i saw you listed all that dnb, and i kinda see this music is from a similar source. really kinda, grimey is a great word to describe it. guess that's why it might be grime that i'm after

Not something like "Killa Kela" was it?

They played before Test Icicles in Nottingham and while VERY different from the main act (Icicles), I actually preferred them!

Hip Hop is really not my thing, but these guys were really good! (As in talented, rhythmical and performed well Live).

(I really enjoy J5 and the various other projects the members have, but they tend to be more breakbeat and chilled than hip hop per se - e.g. DJ Shadow, DJ NuMark).
