ok as title got to build a pc another friend.

budget of £450, it's for gaming, i will be overclocking it for him, he's running a 17" monitor atm but might upgrade later.

anyway which ones better or what should i change:

OR

still got a few concerns, is the case big enough for that gfx card? and is the psu enough?

cheers

are you able to stretch to a 3870? the performance increase is good, and for games that is a must - especially the new games coming out. if this rig is specifically for gaming, think about going for it.

if you have to drop the HDD down to a 160gb - that'll still be plenty for games.

na then i would be better getting a 8800gt, 160gb would be slower and it's not enough tbh.

but is that psu enough to run that card

EDIT: just realised the site says min of 550W psu :(

The minimums mean nothing ignore them. Yes its enough and id choose the second system because the 3850 should overclock to naer the 3870 but you cant get back the memory. Therefore its good to get a 512mb card. Besides now days games are startign to require more and more memeory and i can see 512mb soon beign the minimum.

ok cheers man, that's what i was thinking.
would you make any changes to it then?

EDIT:
just used the "eXtreme Power Supply Calculator" and it only says 322W usage (using a 2900xt) when overclocking and 100% load so s'all good :D

Never use a psu calculator ever, they always wrong. The 3870 uses quite a bit less power then the 2900, GTX, GTS etc and should run perfectly fine on a 450w power suply.

Na cant really see anything to change... well nothign which wouldn't put you over as i like to spend that bit extra... however once youve done taht so many times it becomes a lot extra :p

If you can strech it id suggest a 3870 but if not get a 512mb 3850 and overclock it.
