Anyone used or using both phones? Which do you prefer and why. I know they have very different form factor but why would you chose one over the other?

Had a Z Fold 3 until only recently.........while I was glad to try out the form factor after moving from a Note 20 Ultra, and don't regret buying one, I recently decided to move back to a "normal" S22 Ultra.
Doesn't take too long for the WOW factor to dissappear with the Fold when your day to day use starts running into issues. Firstly, the single screen of the Fold is really next to useless IMO. Far too narrow, far too bulky when in use. Fine with calls etc, but for anything else, you're soon opening it up.......so its a two-handed phone at almost all times IMO. Crease only becomes more noticeable IMO, and the interaction with the softer screen only really wishes you to go back to a normal form factor.
That said, the big real estate is nice, and it takes some adjustment to go back to the smaller S22 especially when using the SPen, but then again, I was always less inclined to use the pen with the Fold, as there was nowhere to store it other than the terrible case supplied as a preorder bonus.
The Fold 4 needs internal stylus storage at a very bare minimum.

The S22 Ultra doesn't give a meaningful performance jump over the Fold 3 all the same, so it's a little on the bland side for me, but it's an extremely solid unit and if forced to use only one, I'd definitely go for the S22 9 times out of 10.

folding is like another thing to go wrong isnt it, i remember my S7 and S8 phones being full of screen faults so maybe it wont make much difference anyway whether folding or not

I had the Fold 3 and returned it, swapped it for the S21 Ultra.

Overall it was an ok device, but the battery life, camera quality and phone signal killed it for me. With how much it cost I felt it should have had flagship cameras in it. Calls constantly dropping was frustrating. Although opening it up to game on was pretty awesome!

After a few years of OnePlus and Google devices, I actually missed using Samsung's One UI (having S8/Note 9 previously) hence why I went for the S21.

So if it were me choosing I'd be going for the S22 Ultra too.

At the moment, I feel that folding phones aren't quite there yet. When the next fold comes out with say, a slightly wider and less tall front screen with smaller bezels, overall slightly slimmer and lighter, built in s-pen housing etc I'll be all over it. I went for the s22 ultra this time round but the fold 3 was something I was seriously considering.

I'd choose neither as I think the price for these phones is ******* ridiculous. However, if I had to choose one, until folding phones become scrolling phones I'd go with the normal form factor of the S22U.

I agree prices are absurd, seems like yesterday to me when top end handsets were coming in at ~£600. When they started hitting the 1k mark, I think Apple led the way with that I started losing interest, tiny incremental upgrades every time for insane amounts of money, it stopped making any sense to upgrade every generation, best to skip a few.

In terms of folding phones though, the Oppo Find N looks more appealing to me than the Fold 3.

^^ prices are indeed insane, but I would still rather pay £1000 and go sim-only for £120/year. That would make the whole thing cost £1240 after 2 years.

On EE, the cheapest I can find for an S22U is £67/month + £50 upfront, which is essentially a £1658 handset!

I've never bought a phone outright yet, I've always managed to find a reasonable deal with sim at the time of upgrade, I keep looking until something pops up. I've managed to bag a 512GB S22U for £50 upfront and just <£50 a month from EE which is the only reason I went for it.

For me I like the z fold 3 form factor, 2 screens but the only issue is that this thing is way too heavy?

It is heavy but you get used to it quick. Especially when folded, it being so narrow makes it very easy to grip. The S22U weirdly in some ways feels heavier than the Fold.

I have the Fold 3 and can't see me returning to a standard form factor ever again if I am being honest.

The outer screen whilst narrow is perfect for the likes of Twitter or Reddit and the inner screen is amazing for video content and the likes.
