Looking at getting a Z170 board to go with a 6700K, can decided between the ASUS MAXIMUS VIII GENE or Gigabyte GA-Z170MX-Gaming-5 both have there pro's and cons or should I be looking at something else, want matx or itx ideally as I have limited desk space, I'll probably never use xfire or sli but nice to have the option but not necessary

I've got some 3200mhz gskill ram coming and also the 6700k, had toy'd with the idea of a x99 matx setup but probably too late as the cpu is ordered and dispatched

Asrock z170 OCF M is the king of z170 matx. I am building my next system at home around this board.

It's clock for clock performance is the best and it OCs very well too. It's comparability with high mems is the besy.

Itx go impact!!

Interesting that its only got two dimm slots on the asrock, I'm guessing that's for overclockability does look nice but ive kind of gone for a black/red combo after ordering the ram...... maybe i'll look at the impact ;)

As already stated the Impact is a superb little board but if you think it may be too small then stick with the Gene, its a cracker of a board imo. Core overclocking will be very similar for all mentioned and yes the Gene will lose a little in mem OC but not by much but is still better than most other boards. For an example, with some g.skill (b-die) i managed 3960mhz C12 cr1, the MOCF and impact can go to about 4100mhz with those timings.

Personally, the design of that Asrock is too offensive even for my windowless case!

BORN TO BE FUGLY ;)

The Gene is the solid and stylish choice.
