So, I have got a little dilemma. It is upgrade time and I am unsure what to do.

My set up right now is:
i5 2500k
Asrock z77 Extreme 4
16gb ddr3 1600mhz
MSI GTX 980 ti
Corsair H110i GT
Corsair RM850

I use my PC for gaming/ web browsing and some 3D design (Photoshop/ Illustrator/ 3DS Max/ Blender etc.) but at night I use it to convert my blu ray library to X265.

Now, Do I buy a i7 6700k + Z170 components and use that for gaming/ 3D stuff and keep the i5 2500k as a dedicated media converter or...
Do I buy a i7 6850k + X99 components and use it for everything then re-purpose or sell the i5 build.

Price really isn't the concern as I was headed towards getting the X99 anyway.

Any advice/ opinions?

Sorry, forgot to mention, i5 2500k is overclocked to 4.8ghz.

I thought about that but I forgot to mention I am overclocked to 4.8ghz. If I buy the i7 3770k I might not see the performance jump I expect for the cost.

Check the programs you use but i suspect the 6 core x99 system may be more benificial to you. The cost of the 6850k is not worth the extra ghz the 6800k or 5820k is more cost effective and get faster ram e.g 3000mhz.

I prefer a single pc over sli/crossfire so that is no real issue for me. Will there be a noticeable performance difference in anything else (programs, transcoding etc.)
