Just curious about how much you can expect to spend per year on a 1999/2000 BMW Z3 (Roadster)?

Pretty suprised at how cheaply they can be picked up

Twelvety pound

I wouldn't be looking at a performance old BMW if running costs area worry, if it goes wrong its going wrong big time.

Yea.

Were you not looking at £2500 Focus a while ago and absoloutely couldn't stretch your budget?

Hardly a serious performance car. Should imagine it shares a large part of its components, and engines with 3 series/5 series.

Which are costly when things go wrong, which they do..often when looking at cars this age :p

I thought the smallest engine in the Z3 was the 1.9 taken from the early E46 318i. It's pretty asthmatic at around 120bhp IIRC.

The 2.8 or 3.0 are the only models worth having although these may be out of your budget.

I'd rather have an MX5.

Yes because it was my first car, I ended up spending £2800 for an 04 Clio and like I said I didn't want to go about £3000 for my first car. If I took most of the advice on this board, I would have ended up spending £1500 maximum and buying a 1.25 Fiesta.

I'm not talking about buying it now i'm talking about in a years time and I was interested in understanding roughly how much they cost to run, because I don't know.

I don't want to imagine the insurance on a Z3 2.8, I could try get a quote for a laugh and see how it compares.

I'm just looking at my next purchase that is all. I was looking along the lines of a 172/182 or a Fiesta ST, but I was pretty suprised at the cost of these Z3s but had no idea how much they cost to run and wanted some advice from people who know more...

Also Tom, I was after a 3 door Focus ideally, and not silver. So why would I want to extend my budget for something I didn't really want?

Can we get back to the topic though please, can anyone advise roughly how much it would cost to run a Z3 yearly?

You'd be better off asking on a Z3 forum or something more specific like Pistonheads. I don't think there are many Z3 owners who post here.

Get a Z3M, my brother owns one, I drive it a lot once you are in the thing you are not too bothered about the running costs the drive and power just makes you forget :)

Probably not worth driving everyday though or it'll empty your wallet.

commenting on Z3M ownership in reference to a Z3 1.8 query is about as relevant as me commenting on my VXR.

The m cars are a completely different animal and its no supprise the Z3M would be a in different league ownership wise to a Z3 1.8

The only thing stopping me from buying one is the Vanos problem, im going to have to research that thoroughly before diving in to that game.
