z5500 6 channel not supported on optical??

I'm using a Logitech Z5500 speaker system. Whenever I connect it to the optical out on my mac pro or on my PS3, I can only choose between Stereo, Stereo X2, Pro Logic II Movie and Pro Logic II Music. But no 6 ch direct (I set the switch on the back to 6ch). Doesn't it have 6 channel support in optical, or am I doing something wrong?

My 5400 do, and I know many people that use the 5500s for surround so you most probably need to change a setting on your ps3/mac, I had to with my 360.

I figured it out. The output was already set to 5.1, but the z5500 only changes to 5.1 mode when it starts receiving 5.1 audio . It then shows Dolby Digital, instead of Stereo and 'fake' surround
