The Z68 chipset allows the use of the CPUs onboard gpu core just like a H67 board, they have various display connectors on the back.

They also have SSD caching, Lucid Virtu and Quicksync.


SSD caching,
This allows you to use a small (20GB'ish) SSD along side a HDD with the OS/programs already installed, this means its speeds up acess times as it "caches" the most common data.


Lucid+Quicksync,
Quicksync allows some programs to use the onboard gpu core to speed up video encoding times etc, Lucid switches off (in to idle) a discrete graphics card and uses the onboard gpu core for simple tasks. saving power.

thanks for reply,. in relation to z68'#s onboard GPU, will that work in conjunction with other GPU's or is it intended as a standalone GPU

Well its actually the cpu that has the built-in core, the motherboard just "passes" it to the connections on the rear.

Pentiums have HD1000

i5 2500K and i7 2600K have HD3000 (theres also some random i3 or two that also has HD3000)

The rest have HD2000.

will that work in conjunction with other GPU's or is it intended as a standalone GPU

Well its intended for a standalone system without a graphics card ( not everyone plays 3D games) but you can still overclock with Z68 like the P67 chipset, the H67/H61 cant overclock. You also need a "K" CPU to overclock also.

Theres also the two benefits above I mentioned when using a 3D graphics card the software can switch to the onboard gpu core for faster rendering/encoding times or to save power by not needing to use the graphics card all the time.

You still connect the monitor directly to the graphics card though and not the motherboard. The Lucid software sorts it all out.
