Z690 socket damage

Repair would be fiddly requiring a steady hand and magnifying stand plus the chance that a "pin" break at any time.

It was supposed to be good but I noticed the damage when I was collecting and got enough of a discount that this board was effectively free.

That's a lot of damage there and even with a steady hand and right tools it looks like it can't be saved without a new socket and if the person powered it on in that state I would say its well and truly dead and needs professional repair.

It doesn't look too bad and I have seen much worse than that repaired. Clone's suggestion of some needles is a cracking idea and should make it easier. All you need is a magnifying glass, preferably hands free with a built in led light and a steady hand.

That's a fair few bent pins.

As other posters mention seeing what you're doing is the biggest issue. Make sure you've got the board anchored while doing it so it doesn't move. Do a few then take a break and go back and do a few more.

If you want to go full tech and have access to a multimeter you could download the datasheet for the socket and check them but it's really fiddly. If any pins/pads beak then you might be lucky and find that it's only there for mechanical support and not even electrically connected.

If you expected a working motherboard, then that's what you should have received. You should have to play about it with it to get into a working state.

Contact the seller with your images. My worry is that they might accuse you of causing the damage.

Yeah he did try and accused me of causing the damage in the end. It was a Face to face transaction. I've now sold this on as damaged

If you noticed the damage on collection how could he then accuse you of damaging it?

Anyway you’ve sold it now so all sorted

I only noticed when I was putting it in to my car. I took the side off the case again to make sure that I could position the loose fans away from the socket.

Bought an open box few months back.
Either the previous buyer or the shop haven’t checked it properly, as it was shipped without the socket cover and all the accessories loose over it.
Didn’t even bother to test it. Sent back straight away.
