So as the title suggest, Im thinking of getting a z77 board, and popping my 2500k in it as I dont think the new IB chips really worth the upgrade.

I want a board to run SLI/Xfire and i just want to know what will i miss out on using a SB instead of IB chip?

PCI 3.0 i will miss out on think but anything else?

Dont know but heres some pros + cons of the asrock z77 extreme4

+ cheap
+ easy to overclock
+ power/reset buttons on motherboard
+ gold caps :D
+ very fast at posting, no delay whatsoever, turn the pc on and it goes to windows splash screen almost instantly
+ xfast ram is a nice utility if you have an ssd
+ pcb is pretty solid, no bending like some other motherboards
+ nicely packaged

- not as wide as regular atx motherboard
- can be difficult putting in/taking out cards from the pci-e slots
- fan control options not as good compared to my asus motherboard. even on the lowest 'level 1' one of my fans is way too fast and loud.
- internet cable doesn't click into place, comes out pretty easy but is fine as long as you don't move your pc
- comes with only 2 sata cables
- pcb is more brown than black

i think there is a thread somewhere in the motherboard forum about that motherboard overclocking apparently its a beast

Yeah I have read a lot of good things about it. Seems the only thing I will miss out on using SB cpu is the PCI 3.0 which isnt a big deal really.
Purchasing this next week i think.

Its great board that with SB. I have tried both a 2700K and 2500K in it both worked great really stable.

Ok that could be but i think normally it is not cpu dependant, it's dependa on the motherboard/chipset i think

To be honest, i dont even need a z77 as im not interested in IB, a good z68 board would do me. Also i saw a post on here somewhere, someone has done a test with current gpus in a pci 3.0 slot and in real world terms its only about 1%-2% better than pci 2.1. I dont think im missing much

Yeah indeed but i also saw it is a bit more in multi gpu setups.

If not bothered a z68 would be fine i guess!
