Z77-D3H and 'xHCI Mode'

I've just built the system in my sig. For some reason, I've had to set 'xHCI Mode' to disabled otherwise windows8 doesn't see the new 2TB HDD or any of my older HDD. Any ideas what that setting does ? I did set AHCI mode before installing the OS to the SSD.

first thing i would suggest is check for the latest bios update that might sort the problem
