z77 drivers not available

Hi guys,

Having just done a clean install of win10 I have a new batch of problems.

The z77 chipset is considered to be "too old" to release win10 drivers for it. Asus are not releasing win10 drivers nor are Intel.

The RST driver will not install ("platform not supported"). Tried v13 and v14 (which supposedly drops support for z77 anyhow, v13 being the last which did). Only tried v14 because they are the ones which officially support win10 (on 8 series and up).

The USB 3 driver will not install.

The chipset driver installs but /only/ renames devices in device manager. The drivers being used are still the default MS ones (dating back to 2006!).

The computer "works", but only using the default MS drivers which are ancient.

Anybody had more luck with z77? Using modded drivers perhaps?

P.S. I can honestly say at this point I regret "upgrading" from win7. Win10 is trouble, trouble, trouble.

Sorry this is a longshot - have you tried slimdrivers? Free download (usual caution to make sure you untick all boxes on download and install). Its worked well for me, but admittedly on Win 7 and 8.1.

Good lucl!

from what ive read 7,8 and 10 are very similar when it comes to drivers, a lot of manufacturers may say there drivers aren't guaranteed to work with win10 but in most cases likely will.

The latest v14 RST driver can be installed manually quite easily on a Z77 board.
The instalelr does not support Z77 any more but the actual driver does.

This guy seems to know what he's talking about, and according to him 13.1.0.1058 was the last driver that fully supported the z77 chipset.

The later ones specifically say "8 series and up" (on intel's own site) because they do not /fully/ support earlier chipsets. How exactly I don't know, but if you're on z77, you do not want anything later than 13.1.0.1058

I've been using the default Win 10 chipset drivers for my Asus Maximus V Gene Z77 board so I decided to test these drivers out and here are the results:

1117 - Default MS Win 10 Driver
1133 - 14.6.0.1029 Driver
1141 - 13.1.0.1058 Driver

So, a slight increase over the default Win 10 drivers. Thanks to the OP for posting about this.

Snappy driver installer.

Use that, awesome tool. It needs about 9gb of space, I run it from a USB stick.

I used that before (on your recommendation) but didn't bother when I did a clean install on W10 this time. Good tool though.

As with any tool, take a full system image beforehand. You should do this on a weekly basis regardless.

Macrium reflect is what I'd use.

A very informative link. Thanks.

I have now removed the v14.6.1029 RST drivers from my Z77 Windows 10 install. Well actually i had to reinstall Windows 10 completely..
I was experiencing strange clicking from my mechanical hard disks after v14.6.1029 but couldn't narrow it down to any one drive in particular. It was as though the heads were parking when the drives were seeking although it was totally random and if i hadn't been able to hear the noises, i wouldn't have known as there were no other signs. Rolling back to to the standard Windows 10 SATA ACHI drivers didn't fix it so i'm not sure what happened. All i know is that the strange HDD noises persisted after rollbacks and reboots.
A fresh installation of Windows 10 has fixed it though, all back to normal now.
