Z77A-G45 not shutting down

Hi all,

Having some trouble with my MSI Z77A-G45 motherboard. It's new to me (got off a forum), and it's having a weird problem: when I try to shut windows down, it seems as normal (screen goes black), but the fans stay running and the lights stay on for about 5 minutes before they finally shut off.

I've tried it again with a completely fresh install of Windows 8.1 on a different boot drive, and it's doing exactly the same thing.

Anybody know what the cause might be?

Try turning off fast startup

Some setups just don't play nice with it and have issues with shutting down with it on.

Cheers but doesn't seem to have worked. I've also tried resetting the BIOS (removing the battery for a while) and updating to the latest BIOS. Those didn't work either.

I've had the same problem and I have the same mobo but mines went away itself some how.

Just thought I'd update this - the problem was caused by using a not completely fresh Windows install, made with a similar but different motherboard. Usually this hasn't caused me trouble, but the MSI board has special quick start/shut down functionality which goes haywire if it doesn't have Windows installed for it right from the start.
