Z87-D3HP - QuickBoost

So... i've recently set up a new machine with a 4670k and a Z87-D3HP. Right from the off it seems the board has elected to overclock the CPU to 3.8GHz via 'QuickBoost' in the BIOS being set on 'Auto' (Other options merely being degrees of extremeness, no 'off').

I've got a bit of a stability issue in that GRID2 seems incredibly crash prone, however I cannot for the life of me find a way to get the CPU to run at a standard 3.4GHz so I can eliminate this from my problem solving... so that's the question - how do I make it run stock without this 'Quick Boost' nonsense?

IntelBurnTest seems perfectly stable, temperatures are all good etc. etc.

Why the hell is it called a 3.4GHz CPU if it actually runs at 3.8GHz all the time? :confused:

Had a couple of BSODs just in firefox now, and lock ups in other games.

Really quite frustrating if there is literally no way of making a 3.4GHz chip run at 3.4GHz??

Ok go to your bios and go to "Advanced CPU Core Features"
and set turbo boost to disable.

That should sort it out.

Nope, nice try but no cigar, QuickBoost isn't the same thing, with Turbo Boost off, the CPU still runs at 3.8GHz. It's essentially allowing a multiplier of up to 38x.

Anyone else with any ideas? Still yet to manage to have this thing run at 3.4GHz.

Run several passes of memtest86+ with no errors so happy enough it's not the RAM.

I think i'll be reinstalling Windows tomorrow on the off chance that's causing the instability but would rather do this knowing the CPU is bone stock.

QuickBoost is part of EasyTune but it's also within the UEFI/BIOS, and whether you have EasyTune installed or not, it's active from there. As far as I can tell changing one is reflected in the other but neither gives you the ability to disable it entirely.

I think tomorrow first thing on the agenda will be a BIOS flash then reinstall windows, then drivers one at a time with a few tests of something like GRID2 in between.
