Z87K Mobo - PWM fans and no RPM readout!

Hi Folks

I have an ASUS Z87K mobo which has 3 PWM headers ; 1 CPU and 2 FAN

I just bought two Arctic F12 PWM fans ; I plugged one 4 pin connector into the CPU header and the other fan 4 pin connector into a Fan header

There is an original fan which has only a 3 pin connector and this is plugged into the remaining Fan header with 1 pin not used

I am puzzled as although the fans run at low rpm and will speed up with the CPU under load ,( QFan is enabled in BIOS) I cannot get any RPM readout for the CPU fan either using Fanspeed or Fan Xpert 2

The only rpm readout I get is from one of the case fans ;not sure if its the 4pin or the 3 pin one!!

Can someone tell me why??

Thanks

I have the MVIE (Z87 ROG) and AFAIR all headers are PWM/DC (I do not use any bar CPU as PC case has controller in it for case fans).

You change a setting in Bios to suit 3pin or 4pin fans, AFAIR from a little reading the newer Z97 Auto detects this.

It's an arctic fan feature. Basically, you have your 4 pin cable and then another 4 pin attachment bit to add another fan cable into. You also have that 3-pin yellow cable yes? Plug that 3-pin yellow wire into the 4-pin adapter on the fan then the main 4-pin from the fan into your motherboard header. These fans have PST so you can have multiple fans off one header. However, that yellow cable shows the RPM. I had this problem, here's the thread;

Oh, I just saw that the fans are Arctic. In order to have the RPMs, you need to connect the 3 pin header with the yellow wire to the female 4 pin connector. The actual RPM readout is not wired in the 4 pin header so you can easily chain multiple fans and just plug the RPM cable of the last one. They are obviously not going to have the same RPM but if the fans are identical, the control should work similarly on all of them, percentage wise from their maximum RPM at 12V.
