I'm looking at a new Z97 board for my 4970k, there are very few options out there now and I'd like to know which is best.

Gigabyte Z97N-Gaming 5
ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac

Both about the same price. I currently own a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 1 and don't like the bios or it's fan control. I have no experience in ASRock boards and from what I gather the 8-pin CPU connector is in a stupid place.

Any advice appreciated.

If you get the gb, check everything is ok from a sleep/resume cycle. 20 times should be enough.

My non gaming itx board sometimes doesn't spin the cpu fan up enough.

I very rarely, if ever, sleep my computer, so that shouldn't be a concern, but I will check it. I always think with how fast SSD's can shut down and start up a PC it's a bit of a non issue now.

Good point on UK RMA, that sort of thing does concern me. Recently had some great service of OCUK and Samsung so I appreciate good customer service. As the Gigabyte is available grom OCUK (for £15 more than other places), I'll probably go that way.

Time to crack out the black plastidip though, can't stand Red in my PC.

I can't fault my Z97n WiFi at all other than little problem. Is it still for sale? I couldn't justify the extra for the gaming.

It's hard to find any Z97 ITX boards now, it's pretty much down to the odd Gigabyte Gaming and ASRock floating around. There is a Asus VII in the Jungle but they've really cranked the prices up to nearing £200 now, which is a joke!!
