I have just purchased a Zalman fan for extra cooling on my heatsink. The issue is and may seem stupid to some but there was an additional wire inside with what looks like some kind of electrical diode on the live wire. What is this and should I use it or should I use it without?

There was no instructions in regards to this in or on the box....

Many thanks in advance

It's probably a resistor for reducing the voltage to the fan, and thus slowing it down (usually from 12v to 7v).

So, I will leave that off then. The other issue would it be okay to plug my previous fan into the PWR socket onto the motherboard? I think it should be okay but wanted to double check..

I have my previous fan (supplied with my Noctua Heatsink) pushing air onto the heatsink and my new Zalman fan pulling air away onto the case fan. Do you think this setup is okay?

Many thanks "Cob" for all your help on this and my other threads, lets hope we can reduce the temps, I'll keep you posted...

Yeah you can plug the previous fan into the PWR socket. And yip a push-pull set-up is the wisest for a dual-fan set-up.

Look forward to the results :)
