Greetings all, I'm new to these forums and would appreciate a bit of feedback with regards to the Zalman GS1000 SE case.

My current setup is a Q6600 @ 3GHz, Asus P5Q Pro mobo, Geil 4GB Black Dragon, ATi HD5850 and a Corsair H50 cooler (plus drives, fans and psu), all inside a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough internal space for everything to fit in properly without compromising airflow & heat build up. After a CODMW2 session the other day, one of the drives hit 51 degC.

So....good choice?
Is it "silent"?
Should I be looking to replace the Zalman's main 120mm fans?
I am open to other suggestions around £100, although I am very fussy!
And the pc is in the living room so it can't interrupt my other half's evening tv viewing!;)

Thanks in advance.

changing the fans would defiantly make it quieter and possibly push more air through not really got an opinion on the case not convinced its airflow will be amazing but haven't looked further than what it says on ocuk

The cooling on the harddrives is quite poor with this case, i have GS1000 Plus which has fans infront of the harddrive bays, i kinda regrett buying it as the overall cooling is not great the build quality is not very good (the holes on the bottom for the screws to secure the legs did'nt line up) and i kinda miss not having a reset switch and HD activity LED. My suggestions because it's your front room something understated, would be a case by Lancool or Fractal Design.

Choosing a case has been the hardest part, since it's the one component that gets seen!

@DIABLO:
I'm surprised the hdd fans don't perform well, but for me something is better than nothing!

The Lancool Dragon Lord looks quite smart, and is relatively cheap. How does it compare noise-wise to the likes of an Antec P183?

There are no Hdd fans on the 'SE' version of the case you linked, Hdd fans are only on the uprated 'plus' version. I can't tell you how loud the fans are on the lancool cases as i don't own one i was basing my choice on case size, looks, cooling potential. But i'd imagine the 140mm fans spin quite slow and you don't have to connect them all or you could get a fan controller snd tailor the fan speeds to how you like.

Thanks Diablo, I hadn't noticed the SE didn't come with drive fans.
I shall keep looking, and will actually read the spec sheets instead of make assumptions from more expensive models!!

Hi,

I just moved my system from a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream and was looking for a quiet case for the same reasons as yourself.

I bought a Fractal Design R2: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-005-FD&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1556

I'm very happy with it, the supplied fans are very quiet (I moved the supplied rear fan to the front and installed an extra fan in the rear) and so far I've been very pleased with the results.

The case looks nice as well (IMO) which was another plus for me :D

I'm planning to post a few pics over the weekend of the interior with my cable management effort, so maybe that will give you a better idea....

Have a look at Zalman's MS1000-HS1/HS2 - around the same price, but they addressed many of the flaws of the GS1000. The HDD fans are behind the hot-swap bays, and the build quality is meant to be very good.
