Zalman HD135 mini fault review

Hope this is ok, as it’s not really input I’m looking for but it was a pain to find any info about it when I planed to get one so now that I have a up & running HD135 if anyone needs to know anything just ask.

Few things to start

1) It’s actually 155mm high from the bottom of the feet to the top of the case, inside you get about 127mm from the motherboard to the top inside of the case.

2) The PSU under hang is so flush with the feet it’s easy to scratch the surface you place it one

3) You can’t fit a PSU longer then 140mm, 150mm do but tight.

4) Stock cooling is way too loud and does nothing really, its bearable at around 40% speed and any less you might as well get rid of it as it moves as much air as a snail

5) There no where you can mount a fan really bar the back just above the I/O ports 2 60mm can be placed here.

6) Drive vibrations are not as bad as stated on some reviews but I wouldn’t go putting any raptors in there.

7) VFD and remote are very good and easy to setup and map keys to.

For what I use it for its fine, as a media box this is not at all suited for games as it will get too hot under the hood.

My setup:

AMD X2 3800+ with NT06 + Noctua 120mm 800rpm
Asus M2V ATX board
512mb PC4200
MSI 7300GS 256mb silent HDMI (HDCP)
FloppyDTV-C + Matrix CAM
Pioneer 111D
1x 10GB 5400rpm
1x 400GB sata
2x 500GB sata esata box
Enermax 400 modular PSU
Windows XP MCE 2005

Cable management isn’t too bad with the modular psu and note this setup has only 1 fan bar the psu which is on the CPU. At idle it’s (idle for 60min) 47c and on load (prime95 24hours) 54c which isn’t great but does the job with just movie playback x264, blu-ray files & hd-dvd it’s about 50c. I tried it with 2 AcoustiFan 60mm which lowered the temp to about, 40c idle 50c on load.

this picture was taken just before PSU, DVB-C & VGA upgrade

I did a major upgrade on this box as needed a bit more power and the 3800 wasn’t cutting it remember iv only had the AMD for about 6 weeks (and this was supposed to be a cheap build) upgrades, photos and temps listed below.

D930 3.0Ghz
Asus P5N-E SLi
1GB 2x512 XMS2 PC2 5400
changed to T-Rex CAM card for TW
added the 2x 60mm to the back, 80mm nexus for intake at the VGA card another 120mm over the northbridge and VGA replaced bottom fan with noctua 80mm

Temps were well over any good limit with room temps at 22c, pc at idle was 37c and 65c after 3 hours at 100% load, after 8 hours near 72c. Didnt want to test any more for fear of damaging the CPU.

At this point I needed to make changes

replaced cpu to a E6300 @ 2.4ghz removed the 2 noctua 120mm and put on one 120mm Yate Loon (think these are fake but they work well tho) blowing air away from the cpu, the bottom 80mm exhaust was now intaking air and added another 80mm low profile intake fan to the right hdd cage as my FloppyDTV was getting very hot.

also modded the PSU with a 120mm Yate Loon to reduce noise

Temps now are 33c idle and 54% full load for over 12 hours, is that an expectable temp? let me know.
