anyone here use the reserator system, can anyone say with any certainty how well these things perform?

One of the mods (badass i think) had one for his 2500-m and rated it quite well but I think general consensus is that it's not up to overclocking a whole system and a self-built setup or a kit is better.

do you have any recommendations on watercooling, which parts to go with, alphacool, swiftech, stuff like that?

It's cooling my overclocked AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ and 6800Ultra, both overclocked, and in silence. Sure a custom cooling kit with the best blocks would be better, but for what it is, it's fine.

XP-M 2500+ @ 2500MHz - 45 Degrees
6800 Ultra @ 450/1200 - 55 Degrees
Uptime 2d11h + been playing BF2 for a while

Silence.

id just like to add that im in a similar place to you mate !.
i made the mistake of buying a cheap tatty WC kit. and regret it sooo much
i think by far the best thing to do is to build your own kit.

heres some noob to noob advice ive picked up from these guys:

PUMP ! the most important part of the rig. things you have to look for is flow and heat dump.

blocks ! ive heard that acrylic topped blocks are a bad idea as over time they will leak etc.
you want to find a block with the least flow restriction possible.

tubing ! if your going for 1/2'' internal ive heard TYGON is about the best due to its ease of bending round tight corners without kinking.

Rads ! well i havnt learnt much about these... the beigger the better i suppose but again that restricts flow, but with the right pump its not going to be a problem .

Res ! use a Tline in the tubing with soem tube pointing verticle to will the system

Case ! some cases are made specific for watercooling like the 3d aurora, where as others can be a bit more tricky to mount stuff in. things to look for is where you can mount the rad, and general places to fit tubing etc... just common sense really

using all of that info im building the following:
aqua extreme 50Z pump
swiftech MCW6002 CPU waterblock
swiftech dual 120mm rad
tygon 1/2'' ID tubing

finaly study the watercooled case gallery... i learned TONS just looking at rigs !

hope this helps
Rick

I have the Reserator 1+ on my rig, its not great for overclocking but for simple use and pure silence its perfect. that’s the reason i bought it.

Temps have risen slightly of late due to the warmer weather but still pretty low.

3700 San Diego @ 2.4GHz ~ 35 idle ~ 45-49 load
X850XTPE @ 600/615 ~ 38 idle ~ 56-60 load

If your after awesome temperatures and you want to clock the hell out of your rig go for custom wc instead.

You will still want decent fans for that too. I liked my custom cooling because I turned the fans on when I needed to, and ran it passively at night. This was on a normal 120.2 radiator.

Anyone know where I can get any more of those hoseclips that come with the reserator? Any idea if they come for other size tubes too?

My reserator is on par with top air cooling but with zero noise, so in this respect it is good. But I would advise a custom WC setup, as they will perform better and give you an option of high cooling potential or next to silent operation depending on your choice of fans. Also if you intend on moving your computer at all, dont buy a reserator because it is a pain to move with the case, this is the main why im going custom very soon.

Why would moving be a problem  the tubes can be unattached from the res so pc and res can be moved separately. This can be done with zero leakage because of the special valves it has.

im not looking to cool any stupidly hot parts, all parts in my computer are cool running 90 nanometre parts, and soon to be another 7600GT and DFI lanparty SLI-DR expert, so i would be looking at cooling two GPU, processor, perhaps northbridge and thats basically it, so im not sure if the reserator would be too bad an option, the thing is i have few zalman parts over time and there all 100% spot on, perfect for what they say they'll do, even running at 2600Mhz my venice only gets on average a couple of degrees above stock, and my 7600GT runs at 43*C idle and not a great deal more (not 100% sure) under load and its overclocked too 635/1610

I won’t talk you out of buying the res. Its a great piece of kit, very well made, solid...usual Zalman, they are a very good manufacturer. I love mine because i hate any sort of noise, the res is totally silent, you could walk into my room and not even know the pc is switched on.

If you are considering cooling cpu, two gpu's and north bridge i believe that will be too much for the res to handle. Custom wc is the only option there.

The res is perfect for a cpu and one gpu with mild overclocking but any more and well....

I have one cooling my 4400 @ 2.6Ghz and 6600GT@ 600/1200

Idle CPU - 31 / Load - 37
Idle GPU - 39 / Load - 44

Plus in the summer when i have my air conditioning unit on i can keep my cpu at 23c load

Justin

Those temps are about same as a top air cooler for cpu, but GFX temps are way lower than stock cooler, not sure how it compares to top gpu air cooler but it must be quite good.

yeah it is me who has one. It's very good for silence certainly, and about as good as top air cooling really. You can get better peformance from custom kits, that is the general consensus. My review is here as well :)

Hello all

Hi guys, this is my first post on overclockers,

I was just wondering, what diameter tubing does the zalman reserator 1 plus use? in the photo's it don't look all that fat!

- im only askin' because im gonna be getting 2x7900gt's and theyre gonna be noisier than i would like, also which fittings [90 degree jointed ones?] would you recommend to buy for the gpu block? [the nexxxos one!] - i dont like the stock zalman one as it doesn't cover the ram. I'm not after die hard cooling, thats why i was after this zalman - i want silence this time round - haha!

Many Thanks

Leigh
