Got bioshock yesterday :) and been playing fear maxed out on my rig and since i build my crossfire setup back up the reserator 2's radiator is hot to the touch i mean stupidly hot in games any 1 have any help to cool it from the crossfire cards? was thinking maybe an extra 120 radiator on the back of my case to help aid the hot crossfire cards and hot cpu.

x2 6000 runs @ 3ghz cause theres no room to oc cause of temps.
2gb geil 800mhx low latancy 4-4-4-12
x1950xtx (master)
x1900xt (slave)
800watt bfg
msi k9a platinum with zalman passive northbridge

No offense, tanner, but DaveMac has a point.

I'm going take a punt - based on your specs - as to your current problem...

You're trying to cool a very hot chip and two very, very hot graphics cards with a passive system that will cope with a single Conroe (E6400, I think) and struggle when a Geforce 7600GT is added to the mix?

The issue - unless you have already guessed it - is that your Reserator 2 simply cannot cope with the extra heatload of the X2 6000. And when you added the two Radeons into the mix, it got even worse.

Remember: the Reserator 2 is rubbish if you're going for big overclocks, simply because it's not meant for that sort of behaviour. You'd be better off using the Reserator 2 for the CPU only and then running an extra, separate loop for the graphics cards. This would defeat the object of the Reserator 2 in the first place, but hey...

so i could run the cpu on an extra rad all on its own loop or are you both suggesting that a new pump would be needed to make a whole loop. i thought it would have been the heat to be honest i was going to go for a built in case system but in the end i just couldnt get it all in and its my first water cooled system all in an antec nine hundred. another idea would a pump replacement and an extra rad solve my problems? just thinkling what pump would fit inside the reserator 2, cause its not bad as general cooling its just under load its sucks

And to answer DaveMac yes its all in the same loop, all on 1 reserator any sugegstions to the cost effective solution? cause am starting uni in 2 weeks wanna get it all stable butr able to oc before then :) many thanks tanner

i think you missed the parts where he said that the the reserator2 couldnt cope with a lower cpu and much lesser graphics card.

you not only have one of the hottest running gfx cards but two of them in the same loop on a poor cooling system. taking the cpu will only get rid of some of the heat prob about 5oc, the 2nd card must be crying after its gone from the 1st card.

i very much doubt that the reserator would be able to cope with the x2 6000 on its own effeciently let alone anything else on top.

hmmm bit of a downer looking at another kit as i just got the zalman last month brand new before i had crossfire again, any one help me out specing rads, reservoir, pumps etc cause i got zalman blocks all round now any help much appreciated please keep in mind budget too :) many thanks as always tanner

You'd probably be best off getting shot of the reserator 2 - see what kind of money they go for, however, before throwing in the towel... it may not be worth it.

Bottom line? To cool that kind of hardware, I'd have suggested two loops in the first place: a single 120mm rad for one loop (with a separate pump, res, etc.) and another for the graphics cards.

However, if you're doing it on a budget, you may PROBABLY get away with sticking them on the same loop with a single 120x2 radiator or two 120x1 radiators in series/parallel. It own't be pretty and it won't get you the best temperatures or silence, but it will be a lot cheaper that the Reserator, get you better performance and stop your PC from nuking itself.

Ideally:

GRAPHICS:
120.1 radiator (take your pick of the cheap ones - they're all pretty much identical)
Swftech/Laing MCP350/Pro whatever it's called...
Some res

CPU:
Same setup.

If your case has two 120mm fan mounts, you could get this all internal. If not, then cut some. :)

However, on a budget, I'd plonk them all in one loop using:

120.2 or 120.3 radiator
Laing DDC Ultra (the 600lph one)..

And plumb that all in with your existince waterblocks and tubing. Get a hole-saw or a Dremel, too, to stick some holes in your case for the big radiator...

Assuming you sell your Reserator for (At worse case) half it's original cost, you should quite easily find a big rad and pump with the proceeds (you definately will, but it's up to you)...

Best of luck, whatever you do.

Well thinking of it like that i recon i could get a 120mm rad single on the rear of the nine hundred and possibly squeeze a 120 double inside the front of the case. and mount the pump to the floor should be able to do that for around the £100 mark. For the moment i have underclocked the cpu to 2.6ghz :( but it seems to have solved the crashing problem but its still running high temps core 0 reading 41c core 1 30c (with core temp) and thats idle :( so hitting around 50 + in bioshock . How much better would the cooling system be with your recomendations ? any idea of possible temps? and would it allow for overclocking??

1 res will cope just fine ..with the x2 6000 & one gfx card.
I own 2 res +1`s
Also you got to take account of the hot weather & all that matters is that the cpu+ gfx cards are being keept cool enough, not how hot the res is at, point a desk fan at it if your bothered.
But adding a rad will help or get shot of the res like some have said.

I have 2 res+1s in sequence because i like things quiet they are cooling the NB/SB/Opty185@3Ghz/1900xtmaster/1900xtx slave but i also have a 2.120 & 1.120 rads in the case for summer & are only turned on when gaming in the summer & i have headphones on so that i cant hear the noise.

To be honest i think if i build tidy you could get a 120.2 on the front grill possibly do cpu and crossfire and then fit a single 120rad to the back. Thats intresting Final8y i love ** setup :) always wanted an opty myself but never have. what temps u running like? with the extra rads etc cause at the moment ive had to underclock to stop throttling down to 2.8 from 3ghz and am at core 0 42 idle core 1 is 32 tho big differeance ey?, but mine is just with the reserator 2 on its own.
many thanks
