Hi guys,

I recently bought a zalman res1+ and a cm stacker 830 for looks, low temps and silence... the problem is that I noticed a smell that comes from the zalman tubes.. it is actually the smell of the coolant that came with the kit. Do you guys also have it? Does it last for ever or it wears off with time? Im using full lenght of the tubes... should I make them shorter? or empty some parfume in the mix??? :D

Any ideas welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Tony.

If it's the usual chemical smell it should go in a couple of days.

a few people have had this issue with the coolant additive. My advice (and others) is to not bother with that as an additive. Just used distilled / deionised water and if you want to add something to stop corrosion then get something like Halford's own coolant conditioner, which is what im using. Plenty of additives out there, just ditch the Zalman one if it's smelling bad. It's not necessary

no it's not ;)
Actually, it is. I've seen at least a few of the products OcUK sell in the store mentioned. Not the same brand, but the same properties. If that doesn't make the store mentioned a competitor, then there's plenty of sites out there people have been shouted at for posting which 'weren't' competitors ;)

ok guys to clear this up quickly. Halfords do sell a few bits which OcUK do, like those car products linked above, but that does not classify them as a competitor in the eyes of the mod team and for forum use. OcUK is primarily a PC parts store, and does branch out in to some other electronics areas as well. As such, blatant discussion of these kind of products from other places like Halfords, Tescos, Argos, Game etc will not be allowed. However, for the sake of making things a hell of a lot more relaxed on the board, mentions of them in a non competiting sense is fine. For instance you can talk about the food at Tesco's, but not about any PC products they might sell. This goes for Halfords too, i can mention the conditioner as above, but would not go off about their electronnics equipment which might be swaying onto the competitor side. It's all down to common sense at the end of the day. If there are any questions then feel free to email me, let's get this thread back on track, i only came in to help the OP out! :p

I got in trouble for saying Halfords :( :p

Back to the reserator, as said use something else!

the thing is that the smell stays on the tubes as well. even if you change the coolant there is still a weak smell coming from the tubes especially if the water temp is high due to high CPU load. Zalman should recognise the problem and replace the tubes for free and while at it should send new "non-smelly" coolant to the customers affected. Am I wrong? The smell is really bad when the room is small and warm.

why not disconnect and leave the tubes soaking in a bath or something, should hopefully wash away the smell. you can buy replacement tubing cheap from some online stores,. or maybe contact Zalman direct to see if they can help...if it remains a problem

I will try various things this weekend starting with changing the mix to 100% distilled water.. thats because zalman is nowhere so I have to improvise or spent more money to fix something that is not my fault. soaking the tubes is probably a good idea but that means staying without my pc for a day or two... thanks for the input.
