I'm thinking of getting one of these.. I'm a fussy git when it comes down to fan noise..

To go onto an OC'd Q6600 and ATI 4870

Never looking into Watercooling before.. So I apologise if this question seems a little dumb..

But do I still need intake and outake fans running if I buy one of these. Or can I experience 'almost' pure silence apart from the PSU fan?

Also i see this is quite a big beast.. How much heat omits from from the actual reserator itself? More or less the same as the PC's outtake fans? Basically am I installing another darn heater in my room here?

The 4870 is one hot card - I'll stick with a high quality aftermarket cooler on that or go the whole hog and get a full custom watercooling rig (will quality fans @7v)

The Q6600 is also a hot chip - but the Res1 will cope as long as no more that 3 core are fully loaded - all four @100% and coolant starts to boil and instant shutdown!

Res1 would replace your CPU fan (and GPU fan if it was of lower spec)
Heat output is same as before - just split between case outake and RES

So your not installing another heater, just having two, cooler ones.

I'm very pro passive water cooling - but with your spec, you'd need lots of room and 12 or more Cape Corra/Konnectamatic rads.
So for the same price as a Res1 - get a active watercooling loop and acheive a quiet system that way.

Start a thread in the cooling section with full spec (inc fans + heatsinks), for help on what to get.
You may find just swapping out your fans is all you need
