Just installed a Zalman cooler on my 7600GT

It looks as if the fan is hardly spinning

When I turn the knob fully anti clockwise, the fan stops spinning, but in the manual it says it should be operating in silent mode 1,350 rotations per minutes and alike, when I turn the knob fully clockwise, it says in the manual the fan should be spinning in normal mode at 2,400 rotations per minute, but again, the fan stops spinning

I have the fan spinning atm, but it is reeeeeeealy slow and I can't even see the high intensity blue LEDs.

I have the power going to the fan from the Motherboard, should it be straight from the PSU?
It just seems it isn't getting enough power?

Thanks :)

I'd try the fanmate controller fed from a molex.

I have the fatality versions of your vf-900 on my GX2 and have them on tickover even though the card is overclocked.

Warmest core never gets past 55 degrees C under full load!

It should be fine at it's lowest setting on a 7600gt.

The fact that it's not spinning fast is strange though! Could be a bios setting that's throttling the fan.

Let me know how you get on! :)

Cheers gt mate :)

I just had a shower and while I was in there I was thinking what it could be.
I thought it could be the fan mate 2 that is not working correctly.

So right now, I have just un hooked the fan mate 2 from the Motherboard and the actual fan, and I have connected the fan directly to the Motherboard where the fan mate 2 was connected to.

Now, its working, the blue LEDs can be seen and the fan is spinning at a substancial rate and it is very quiet, which is good of course.

Could this mean that the fan mate 2 is broke, or what else could it be?
Should I buy a cheap fan controller to hook up the Zalman to?

The temperature has dropped while idle, it was 48/49c with the stock cooler, now its 40/41c with the Zalman, I suppose it could drop a few more if I could increase the rate of the fan.

Cheers, Steve.

Update just for you gt :)

I currently have the Zalman running straight from the Motherboard, I have taken your advice about running the fan mate 2 from a molex, so I have just bought an adaptor off eBay :)

Will let you know when it arrives and I have tested it, Steve :)

Do you have some sort of automatic fan control enabled in the bios? That's the only thing I can think of other than a faulty fanmate.

I've been meaning to check in the BIOS but I haven't yet, I will though.

It could possibly be a faulty fan mate, but when I turned the PC on (with the fan mate 2 connected), I watched the Zalman and it spun fine, with the LEDs glowing brightly, but then 5 seconds later, the LEDs went off, and the fan reduced its speed by about 90% So I'm not sure if its faulty or not?!

Waiting for the molex adaptor to run the fan mate off, hopefully for some reason the fan mate wasn't getting enough power and this will fix it, if not, I am happy, because it has reduced my temps, and made my PC so quiet even like this!

Steve

if it's spinning at 100% at first then it's most likely not the fanmate

as others have said the bios may be the one to blame for this, but running it from the psu would fix it for sure, or at least discern where the problem is present

MY Zalman CPU fan has never worked properly.. its seems to never go faster than 1600 RPM even tho it states it should go up to 2400 RPM when at full load.

Very odd.. but i gave up trying in the end.

haha, the fan isn't too bad atm but it isn't right.
I'm going to try the molex adaptor, but if that doesn't work, I'm not too fussed.

:D
The fan mate 2 is working.
I suppose it just wasn't getting enough power from the Motherboard for whatever reason, anyway, thanks for helping :)

Finally, I can see the LEDs!
