This annoying little bleeder has wasted a lot of my time! My mate wanted a budget build which I put together for him using a Z9, which in fairness is a fantastic case for the money when put together. However, building the system caused me no end of headaches! The stupid stamped metal expansion slot covers required an outrageous amount of force to remove and resulted in a really deep cut that went through 3 plasters! The HDDs used an 'innovative, time saving' method that took ages to work out and longer to actually install. Once installed, the thing was as wobbly as hell so I had to insert an extra screw to steady it, which all took much longer than putting 4 screws in the old fashioned way. Installing an SSD in it was also a pain. There were 2 places you could do it, one was at the back of the motherboard tray which, when screwed in, left no room for a SATA power cable to plug in. Same problem with the 5.25" drive bay adapter. Ended up ghetto modding some motherboard standoffs into the SSD and screwing it in from the bottom.
All-in-all, a real pain, but it worked well for the price when put together, apart from one issue...
Put it all together, plugged it in, pressed the power button- nothing. No worries, probably just haven't turned it on at the PSU as usual. I hadn't. There was a standby light lit on the motherboard so I checked the front panel connections- all fine. I was just about to rip it all out and bench it when I noticed that the power switch was on the front bezel. I pulled the bezel off to find that the power switch attaches to cables through a socket that had to be disconnected every time you took the bezel off. Who thinks of these! I just told my mate that every few months I'll come round to clean the dust filters- because if I let him take the bezel off it would probably cause all sorts of problems!
What a palava! But for a £40 case it had by far the best cooling and decent looks from all the cases on offer. But I can't help but wonder how much of the money went into these pointless 'innovative' features that just made the whole thing harder!
